Does anyone know if St Albert RCMP have gone to a new radio system. I have heard them previously on 156.030. Recently all I pick up is what sounds like an open carrier wave and no voice.

I get lots of traffic from Fort Saskatchewan and Morinville.

Any thoughts?

I would be surprised if they have gone to a new radio system. The RCMP is spending great gobs of money to build a brand new provincewide network for 2010/2011. There won't be any expenditures to put one or a handful of detachments on a different system just for that short period of time.

Check the frequencies listed in the database and see if any other repeaters have been pressed into service. The RCMP equipment is old enough that the "old" repeater may have blown up and been replaced with temporary equipment on a different frequency. Many detachments in my area are also having extra channels installed and linked together to improve radio coverage due to failing strengths of the existing radio equipment.

I'm not hearing what your hearing, open carrier etc. I suspect it may be intermod from a PC. You may have programmed that channel to WFM.
Do you have a radio with CC? you might be surprised what you find
