A friend of mine recently mentioned that St. Francis University, located in Cambria County is installing a new TRS. In fact, when he took his daughter to tour the university a few weeks ago, they had all new radios. Apparently, this TRS will be used for all operations. In checking their licenses, they have two recently issued licenses in the Loretto area. They are:

  1. VHF Band License
  2. UHF Band LIcense

These appear to be for an LTR TRS. If anyone in the area can give a listen, it would be most appreciated.

License

Both licenses show station class FB2. (Regular analog repeaters). If this was a trunked
system, the class would be FB8. Looks like the license was changed for narrow band operation and
several frequencies were added at two different locations.....

That's not correct. A station class of FB8 indicates that the trunked system has exclusive rights to the licensed frequency within a given geographic area. FB2 is a perfectly valid station class for a trunked system. The radio service is what matters, in this case both of them are YG (Industrial/Business Pool, Trunked).

I stand corrected.. Must be old age. After working in communications for almost 50 years, It's
obvious I no longer can be trusted to remember the details. I think this is about the fourth time
this year someone had to correct my mistake... Departing RR for good and looking for other things to do with my spare time....

Cermusa

This is actually part of the now defunct CERMUSA Telehealth project. CERMUSA - Saint Francis University's Center of Excellence for Remote and Medically Under-Served Areas
The project was federally funded and not renewed. If you note, several sites are located quite a distance from the university. Equipment from these sites have been removed and dismantled. At the Richland site I was sharing space with CERMUSA, I'm now using an equipment rack that was abandoned by them.

I'm not clear as to why the licenses are being renewed or showing up on the database as new. I have a feeling they received a notice that the licenses needed attention and someone not knowing what they are authorized the renewal,
