I saw this on the news tDistrict adds some teeth to truancy rules

Skip school and pay the price: a visit to court.

Only this time it's the truant as well as the parent who will be facing the consequences before juvenile court judges in St. Johns County.

District school officials hope this new approach will cut down on truancy and they'll see an increase in the high school graduation rate and a decrease in the dropout rate.

"I'm very excited. It looks like something will be happening," said Superintendent Joe Joyner at a board workshop Tuesday.

He credits St. Johns County Circuit Judges John M. Alexander and Clyde E. Wolfe with their help in "moving through the truancy issue quicker."
