St Lawrence County Fire Repeater keeps dropping out

Anyone here in the St Lawrence County area. On the fire dispatch 154.355 I could here the repeater drop out, as if it lost power. There are 2 preceeding beeps before this occurs. It is first Sounds normal then after about 6 seconds, you here beep, beep, then the repeater drops. I know theres a couple of repeaters phased in to cover the county.

That sounds like a transmitter timeout. Maybe the timer needs adjusting to allow longer transmissions.

where are you listening from? the county has 2 main repeaters that it uses. One in Russell (rptr 2) area and the other in Parishville area (rptr 1). Then there are a couple of others they sometimes use that have been added to expand coverage (Morristown area and Massena area). Original plans for the current infrastructure supposedly were based on a 6 repeater setup. When they put the VHF system in they only put in 2 of those repeaters, hence why the radio system in the county leaves large areas of poor coverage. They've tried to patch it up by throwing up a couple of extra repeaters...

If I recall, the repeaters emit a couple of short beeps when on backup power... Though given my experience in the county, I wouldn't ignore operator error as a possibility.... :roll:

I am near Brockville, Ontario. I believe what they call Repeater 2 is in Morristown, NY. I just hear beeps after about 5 or 6 seconds then the signal drops power considerably. Even when the county disptach is transmitting from Canton. It sounds like it could be something to do with backup power, but this has been going on for 2 months now. I thought there was some construction going on in Norwood, NY at the WNPI tower that holds PBS station and St lawrence county sherrifs repeater as well. I know Canton sherriff's dept was having trouble last month with repeater coverage. It is a big county in NY, with lots of different terrain, and lots of ground to cover. There seems to be a lack , like you say of reception, like dead spots throughout the county.
