In Jug over the past few days. The Starnet system is still actively using three sites (0, 6 & 7). Sites 6 & 7 are each using eight voice frequencies - NOT three as reported in the RR database.

The database entry for the Staffs Starnet contains a lot of duff info about the freqs and idents and should not be trusted.

I pass through the area on a regular basis and it's nice to hear such a unique system still in operation.

With regards to the database. The info in there has been in there for years and the Police TG info will be removed soon. Someone recently told me about the frequency changes, but obviously this info wasn't correct.

Feed me the correct stuff and I will update straight away.

Didn't have time to check out the operation of Site 0 but the following will be in use
152.150000
154.725000
154.887500
155.412500

Idents noted (from this and previous logging over the past ten years I have to conclude that whoever labelled the ones in the database had a good imagination):

Unfortunately the logging didn't include Friday or Saturday nights which are the best time for building a picture of EMS activity.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

A few more questions. Which site is Site 0? As I have been informed that there are two standalone sites, Leek and Sedgeley Beacon?

Also if they did use those frequencies then surely both 152.150000, 155.412500 would not be used due to them being broadcast over the whole of the county on their respective simulcasts anyway?

I have ammended the Talkgroups with ones I know are current (some unid) and removed the obselete Police ones. Also I didn't think that EMS was on the system at all?

I'd guess that 'site 0' is the simulcast part of the system. I've never put much effort into making sense of it as I normally just pass through.

Appologies for the confusion - I meant emergency services in general and not Ambo when I said 'EMS'

Ok, from how I understand it the system is split into two zones. North Zone and South Zone.

North Zone is a set of simulcast TX/RX sites poss around 6, and South Zone the same.

There are then a number (i've got two from all the previous submissions to the DB) of fill in sites which are independent from the two simulcasts. These fill in gaps where simulcasting the frequencies wouldn't be viable or effective due to the layout of the system. The system also has multiple remote receivers and in-building amplifiers to provide good indoor talk-in coverage into the system for portables.

Alltogether there are 24 sites in the system, with a mix of TX/RX, RX only and Microwave link only.

From looking at the old Police TG allocations, most operations were split into North/South and those TG's would be locked into either zone.

This was done so the radios only tie up a frequency on their respective simulcast. If they set the radios to roam the entire system, if one officer who was on the North simulcast TG 'North 1' for eg. went into the service area of the South simulcast, the system would have to allocate a frequency and that would tie it up for other users.

I expect full roaming was restricted to Countywide channels to preserve frequency resources, allthough the system seems to be so powerfull anyway that I imagine either zone would be useable in most of the county.

Phew my keyboard is on fire now......
