Sorry, but I am not real familiar with vintage equipment... I was looking at some Collins radios on the web recently as well as some older Heathkit stuff (HW-100 etc.). There seems to be a sort of standard size of about 15x8 inches on many of these radios. Is (was) this some sort of standard size for gear back in the 50's and 60's? IS there a name for that standards of it exists?
If so I suspect that it started out as some sort of military requirement.
When I was at the old Collins "store" (more like a museum) in Omaha years ago many of the radios seemed to be of the same size/shape as well.
