Standoff in Aurora involves an officer

AURORA - The Aurora Police Department is in negotiations with a barricaded party, who happens to be a fellow officer.

The standoff, which started around 4:30 p.m., is at a residence in the 18000 Block of E. Mansfield, near Tower Road. The officer is alone inside his home and has threatened himself and possibly others, police say.

Police have evacuated neighbors and roped off several surrounding streets. We will have an update on this situation on 9NEWS.COM and tonight on 9NEWS at 10 p.m.

AURORA - A standoff with involving a distraught Aurora Police officer ended peacefully Wednesday. Police say the officer had threatened to hurt himself and his ex-wife.

Members of the SWAT team surrounded the officer's home in the 18000 block of E. Mansfield, 4:30 p.m. The officer was alone inside the house. Negotiations ensued for several hours by phone.

Police say the officer has been on the force since about 1981 but has recently had some personal and professional problems. He was a sergeant until last week, when he was demoted to an agent.

The standoff ended peacefully when the officer turned himself in about three hours after the incident began.
