Troop 3/15 recent observations:

As I've been mentioning, many cars were going in for "radio reprogramming" late May/early June, and that has slowed considerably since most cars have been reprogrammed it would appear. With the exception of the "Utility Cars", I'm not hearing mention of the "old" District-Chicago programming structure. "Switching to North/switch to Southwest/Switch to Middle" as an example. No longer hearing "switch to DC-C/DC-B" etc. on cars that I noted have been reprogrammed.

I've also noted, and heard mentioned, that "I no longer have car-to-car" when troopers are assigned to the Southwest Patrol sector. IDOT 1995 has been monitoring and heard on the Southwest Patrol talkgroup more than before. 3-134 was the latest I heard this morning saying "I no longer have that channel" and instead went across the Southwest Patrol channel. I have not heard 4 out of the 6 cars I noted that went for radio reprogramming unable to utilize the "old" D5 car-to-car. This channel appears to being phased out in the new programming.

There has been frequent "inter-Troop" training between Troops 3 & 15 heard. It was mentioned prior that Troop 15 was being phased out, so this could be correct. The Tollway Authority renews Sept.1 with ISP annually, possible targeted date?

It's been over 6 months now since the Districts have become Troops. Many of the Troops affiliate with the DuPage and Cook sites and have programmed all of them in ID Scan mode. I've noted many of the Primary and Secondary Troops are patched and carrying the same traffic. As it was noted late last year, they appear to have consolidated the channels available, and the Dispatch Centers were also able to organize and staff accordingly. I've made updates to my Troop 3 via sentinel, and thought I'd share my current set up. Districts 2 & 5 talkgroups that are in use have been added and properly labeled. I don't think I've missed much:

3-A-9005
3-North-9002
3-Middle-9007
3-Southwest-9013
3-South-9008
3 Car-to-Car-9067
3-ISPERN-9051
3-Detail-9006
3-Detail SW-9014
3 Car-to-Car SW-9068

3 Car-to-Car SW might be set to Avoid soon if I keep hearing conversations that "I no longer have that channel". For now, it remains. I currently have over 4,200 radio ID's, and as more Troops affiliate with my local sites, I can update those "old" district radio ID's with the new numbers. I've also seen many "re-plated" cars, and recently saw a probationary Trooper's car 3-44x with a new plate. I'd suspect they won't be changing car numbers once they complete the probationary status after seeing this.

Just noticed this morning looking through Unitrunker that Troop 3 Tac 1 & 2 (9009 & 9010) appear to now be encrypted. Tac 3 (9011) is not for now. I show no clear key ups since last Thursday on Tac 1 and May 24 for Tac 2 (not necessarily saying there hasn't been any, that's just what I show here. No way to account for what happens during computer downtime). Can't tell if it's strapped or selected encryption because they're just not that active.

TG 9068 is still car to car active here in the Joliet area. We had a hazmat spill on i80 and Briggs last week and they used 9068 for a lot of traffic problems taking traffic off i80......

I can't believe I'd say this, but it's probably a good thing. The "Twitter kids" seem to have this thrill with posting air support locations and add screen shots when the SAVE Teams are following stolen/car jacked vehicles. Offenders have been using viaducts and lower Wacker Drive to run cover, switch cars, dump guns, clothes etc.

Based on the radio conversations, it appears the newly programmed radios aren't having this channel programmed. IDOT 1995 has been on Southwest Patrol channel talking to cars and the "I no longer have that channel" seems to be a common statement.

I think I have all of the Troop 3 cars. Every once in awhile, I catch a straggler, but can't get by me..lol! Most of yesterday, Troop 1 was affiliating with both the DuPage and Cook site, but already had most of them. In addition to Troop 1, this morning, Troop 5 and Troop 6 were affiliating up here, so was able to document some of the changes. Keeps it interesting for me, and looks good on the display.

Looks like it's not strapped, I have a clear key up on Tac 2 from yesterday afternoon.

155.835 is now being used for VHF Paging for Lake Quad 3 Dispatch (33448). Initially was used for dispatching Lake Zurich to cover Deer Park.

155.835 is the RX freq for LZFD’s VHF channel. All of their dispatches are patched to that and you’ll still hear other traffic as well when some mutual aid companies come in. It’s been like that since they made the switch several years ago.

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has experienced this. I am located in Northern Cook county. My SDS-100 can received and monitors all TGs on the Cook North / NWCD - Simulcast, Lake County - Simulcast, Cook - North Simulcast, DuPage Simulcast, and Cook South - Simulcast (700MHz).
Yesterday afternoon, I ran a discovery on Cook - South Simulcast (800MHz) which usually doesn't pick up any hits. But, this time, it discovered over 30 TGs, all unencrypted, which appear to be EMS/Fire/Law. After about an hour the signal on that simulcast vanished not to be heard again. None of these TGs are listed in the Starcom21 database. I also could not find anything in the Unidentified list. I attached the list to this post hoping someone may have insight as to how/why/what this was. Could there have been some form of skip propagation that somehow caused a cross-over to/from another system outside of SC21? This was a phenomenon that I have only previously witnessed on low VHF.

Was briefly seeing IDOT's Bloomington Yard talkgroup in Phase 2 but is currently in Phase 1 again. Would just chalk it up as an error but I was seeing it both in Unitrunker and on my SDS200 from site 229.
