I grew up in a house with a volunteer fireman as a dad and always had a scanner. I am interested in having one where I live now in Starkville. My wife purchased me one as a gifts few years ago but i think it was the wrong type to pick up the police and fire in this area. Can someone tell me what type I need to look for to use in the Starkville area?

you will probably need a newer digital scanner. Most towns are going to th MSWIN system which is all digital. I have a Uniden BCD996P2 that I use.

So yes, you will need an digital capable scanner. If you want to hear say MHP or others on MSWIN, you need a Phase II capable one.

has greenwood ms. police moved to another system? i never hear them on 153.8075 any more.
