Has anyone heard what the fate of the Interop Overlay network will be with the migration to Motorola P25? I thought the VHF/UHF overlay was a great idea and hope they carry it forward.

Great idea and mostly useless... The old V/U overlay relied on control stations and repeaters connected into the old Opensky network and had an equivalent TG assigned to it. And more often than not didn't get used as (for example) County is on 800 and they installed UHF overlay comms in that county... Perfectly useful for everything you ever wanted to do.... except interop communicate with the locals.....

A lot of the state is now on trunking of some sort. Interop could be set up but unless the state puts in an interop conventional channel with same coverage as the county or local system most folks won't be able to use it with much success.

The ISSI gateways between the state system and local system(s) including conventional systems with consoles that support ISSI connectivity will be able to communicate with the state.

Far more useful and workable than the old V/U overlay.....

IMHO......
