I've noticed quite a few TG's firing up today here in the Williamsburg area, anyone else noticed how busy it seems to be today? (Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries, Dept of Corrections, ect)

Using a Pro 2096 with a 800Mhz 10-inch antenna off the back.

Sorry to keep spamming the thread...I was listening to STARS again today and some DFP units were talking to each other. One was located in Glen Allen, another at the HRBT on the norfolk side and the last if I remember right was out near Mecklenburg. All three units reported very good quality audio on the DFP Ops 1 channel they were talking on.

I heard this too around 1645 or so. One unit reported to be in the tunnel, one in gainesville, and one near richmond on chippenham pkwy. they were amazed at the qualtiy of the signals..as was I!

I've been running pro96com the past couple days on the Richmond tower and have come across quite a few talkgroups that aren't listed in the DB. I'll list them here, maybe some of you have heard voice traffic. If so, feel free to share what you heard so we can better determine these TG's usages.

TG 2070 (with radio 11589) Seems like this one is definately DCR...
Radio also affiliated with:
-TG 6157 (Radio Maintenance 1)
-TG 2013 (DCR Unknown)
-TG 2061 (DCR Law Enforcement 5?)
-TG 2053 (DCR False Cape State Park Ops 1)

TG 2029 (with radio 11589 and 11820) Seems like this one is DCR also.
Radio 11820 also affiliated with:
-TG 2005 (DCR Ops 1 Hampton Roads)
-TG 2041 (DCR Pocahontas State Park?)
-TG 2061 (DCR Law Enforcement 5?)

TG 2858 (with radio 14002)
-Possibly Departmet of Fire because radio follows suite with other DOF Radio ID's

TG 3914 (with radio 21824)
-Fits between DGIF and Marine Resources Commission TG's

TG 4808 (with radio 23523)
-Possible DMV? Other DMV TG's are in the 48XX series

Hopefully this is clear enough to understand. I tried to match the radios with other known talkgroups to help determine what agency at aleast is using the talkgroup. It seems like the last two will probably be the most difficult to figure out.

You probably heard a lot of radio checks. During the past two weeks DCR has had 60 to 70 installs for
at least 22 different State Parks.

3914 is always there, but very little ever heard.

2858 is most likely DEQ

DCR is absolutely mindblowing in terms of how many TG's get affiliated vs. how many they actually use. But at least the system is moving forward. It's much more fun to watch now.

Here's a few more from last night and today:

TG 756 (with radio 40111)
-If it follows the pattern, this should bne VSP Blue 4.

TG 96 (with radio 501)
This radio also affiliated with:
- TG 1 (VSP Richmond 1)
- TG 3 (VSP Richmond 2)
-If this TG follows the pattern, it should be Training I.

TG 1602 (with radio 10053)
This radio also affiliated with:
-TG 1 (VSP Richmond 1)

TG 2312 (with radio 12154)
-Possible DOC because TG fits with other DOC TG's and the radio ID is also a DOC radio.

I think DCR has about 30 talkgroups statewide. Right now most ops traffic remains on legacy and all LE dispatch traffic takes place on local agencies frequencies or MCTs so only LE talk around traffic takes place on STARS. When STARS radios are put in the park offices ops traffic should increase and if/when a dispatch is available for the LE talkgroups traffic will increase. Most ops traffic will remain on legacy however because only LE and a few full time ops staff have STARS, everyone else has legacy.

Confirming,
756 is indeed BLUE 4

Also,

TG61 has carried tfc from VSP CCI units from Div 5, so I tend to think this would be termed SURV 5 A,
TG16 is called TAC TEAM 1

Random factoids from my kitchen to yours....

Awesome thanks for the info MGB2009 and Motorhead. Here's some more from yesterday and today. DCR was really active. I don't understand why they need so many TG's but more power to them...

TG 754 (with radio 11)
-Definately looks like a VSP Wytheville Division TG, but I'm not sure what its designation would be.

TG 102 (with radio 1421)
This radio also affiliated with:
-TG 1 (VSP Richmond 1)
-TG 3 (VSP Richmond 2)
-TG 50 (VSP Chesapeake Tac 1)

TG 2066 (with radios 11582, 11921, 11888, & 11650
Definately DCR

TG 2027 (with radio 11921)
Radio also affiliated with:
TG 2066, & TG 2014
-Definately DCR

TG 2014 (with way too many DCR radios to list)

TG 2016 (with radio 11802)

TG 2068 (with radio 11651)

TG 2026 (with radio 11651)

TG 2030 (with radio 11650)

Awesome. There's another one down. No if only we could figure out these DCR TG's, but I think that might be much more of a challenge then the others.

I'm new to this game, is there anyway to program these in to a Pro-95? I tried doing it but it always gets stuck on those 'noise' channels that I guess are control, and then have to be locked out.

Don't feel bad about the feeble brain... apparently mine is effecting me as well:D. It is the Dept. of Conservation & Recreation.

DCR as answered is Department of Conservation Recreation, or in a nutshell , Virginia State Parks
and a few other little unknowns under their jurisdiction. In the past 3 weeks DCR had an approximate
70 STARS radio installs, an install for nearly every park in the state from Wilderness Road to Sky Meadows. Check out their website. Department of Conservation and Recreation

Recon run through SW Virginia

I might tentatively be making my return road trip via the mountains of southwest Virginia, and on into eastern Tennessee and down the Southern Railway.

I have both a PRO-197 and BCD996 scanner in the vehicle. Is there any simple recon data that I could provide between D.C. to southwestern VA, likely via US 11?

I have not researched my route exactly, that is yet to come.

If you have the time, ride Skyline Drive from Front Royal VA to Waynsboro, then continue down the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Great Smoky Mountions and continue through them. Seems that is about 600 miles of pure scenery.
