I heard grid checking yesterday, and think I heard mention of Manassas. Maybe Division 7 is finally stirring to life.

I believe they were doing Division 2 testing if the tfc was on Radio Maint 4. Primarily off of Mount Weather. Data chs (not control) on the air today for coverage testing are: 152.5025, 152.2175 and 152.5175 which are sites 1-23, 1-08 and 1-09. Radio Maint 4 in use yesterday and today for the tests.

Is this thread just for reporting new Talk Groups?

For the past few days, I've been picking up traffic on TG 96. It sounds a lot like VSP, but I can't confirm that. Following the sequential order, this TG should be Training I, but I don't think that's the case. It may be State Fair related, but I'm not sure. Most of the traffic consisted of units marking in service, out of service, 10-17, etc.

Yes, definitely VSP at the State Fair. Nice being able to hear them on STARS instead of having to rely on the old 460.2625 low-power repeater at the Raceway. I've monitored them a lot over the past several days on the Thornburg tower. They're calling the channel "Richmond 3."

I just got back from the State Fair and saw the STARS trailer there. I didn't have my scanner but it was interesting to see the trailer that I've been hearing about for a few years. There were only about 14,000 State Troopers there, so I'm sure there was some activity on that talkgroup. Total overkill in manpower....

Richmond 3 SHOULD be TG5. Red-1 got renamed a little while back. I will have to confirm with N4JRI's notes, but i believe this to be so.

96 should be correct for Richmond 3, and was definitely the TG in use for traffic control. Of course that has to leave us wondering about 0005 (formerly Div.1 TAC) and 0007 (formerly Red-1). I assume that everyone is Phase III now, right? Probably a few more mysteries there, too.

The DVR freq 765.40625 was active, but I was hearing calls near Blackstone. At minimum it was repeating TG's 0001, 0003 and 0096. The PSR-500 can't separate the TG's on this freq.

Dave, it'd be interesting to see if you could separate these as P25 simplex TG's on your new Uniden.

Motorhead, there were 4 antennas on the trailer. In addition to providing the 800 trunk, could it be a bigger, badder DVRS for troopers who are on the VHF system? BTW, trailer CC was 868.925 on Sunday.

Reminder, I'm headed to Fort Belvoir to play at Octoberfest and am going to try and chase down some sites. Are 108, 109 and 118 still active, and if so, where are they being heard?

I'll hit Independent Hill tomorrow on my way up, and try the others on my way back Saturday afternoon.

Any clues as to suspected location would be great. I'll have internet in my billet, and will check Friday night for any hints.

Give me some places to dog my rental car!

In a valley that only a few know where it is
IMy guesses are that site 8 is located somewhere near Luray, VA and site 9 is near Winchester. Site 18 I don't know.

These site numbers correlate with microwave disassembly locations that are listed under Contract modification 32 at the STARS contract site. Just a guess but that is the general area I would start to look if I was going hunting.

Drive safe and have a good time.

I haven't heard 108 active for at least a week.

If you have a uniden digital. There is also the fort belvoir 380mhz system to listen to.

I know that the Commonwealth is in a financial crunch but why did they delete 41 microwave sites? Is it because they were not needed or was the Commonwealth just trying to save money.

Thanks

Allen have a good week end checking the data. Also, enjoy your pilgrimage at the Fort and play well.

And I am doing just that. TG 162 appears to be security police at the event itself, and 164 appears to be other event personnel, some of whom are handling money.

Personnel in my billet at Knadle Hall are using a repeater on 149.675 [173.8]. The Octoberfest has a carnival midway provided by "Jolly Shows" but no radios noted.

I visited Independent Hill on the way up, and no control channel is active. I was getting faint hits from what I'm sure is Fork Mountain. Also no CC's heard from here at Ft. Belvoir.

I guess I'll have to find something different to explore when I get off work tomorrow afternoon.

Sounds like a good side trip. If STARS is on the blink, maybe I'll tune in WVIRP for something exotic.
