Sentinel: Starting to wonder if Uniden is rejecting my update attempts

So I haven't been able to successfully update the database from Uniden in the last week or so. I have Breezeline as my ISP and they are not blocking ftp. I can successfully make ftp connections to both ftp.adobe.com and ftp.novell.com. The Uniden ftp server must be running because nobody else is complaining about not being able to make connections.

I looked at the traffic using Wireshark and I see my computer sending a TCP SYN packet as it tries to build a TCP connection to the Uniden server but there is no response.

Since nobody else is having this problem it makes me wonder if my traffic is being routed to the bit bucket by Uniden.

Is sentinel showing an error message when you try to update the database?

what exactly does the Sentinel error say?

Great troubleshooting! It is possible that your ISP's public subnets are being blocked along the route to Uniden. For example, if that ISP had a large amount of malware coming from their connections, those IPs may be blacklisted for a period of time. That happens more than most people realize.

My gut tells me Uniden is likely not doing the actual blocking, though.

Have you tried tethering to a phone to test?

I'm a cheapskate and use Tracfone as my provider. I haven't checked in about a year but Tracfone didn't allow me to use my phone as a hotspot last time I tried.

I use Sentinel on a laptop so my next move is to visit my local library and see what happens there.

You could be right about the subnet blacklisting. My trace route stopped at a Level 3 router in Dallas. Not definitive but another data point.

Running into into Sentinal no downloading randomly myself, I found using my VPN solved the issue on my end. Don't ask why I haven't a clue. worth a shot.

Like someone else said, you're assuming your connection is even making it Uniden. It's likely, as someone else mentioned, that you're never getting there. Uniden has no reason to reject you, and if they were they'd probably be rejecting everyone else too, and everyone would know about it already. So more than likely it's your ISP blocking you, or some other problem along the way.
