Flight Plan?

CSP Air Unit Transports High-Profile Prisoner to Colorado
But what about that flight plan?

The Colorado State Patrol flew accused killed John Mark Karr from California to Colorado for trial on Thursday evening.

He boarded the Beech King Air 200 in Long Beach (LGB). The IFR flight plan filed indicated an origin at LGB and destination of 1V5, the Boulder Municipal Airport.

Members of the news media gathered at 1V5, where a couple of Boulder County Sheriff's cars were on a taxiway and deputies strung crime-scene tape to mark where the cameras could be placed.

As the flight neared Boulder, news media helicopter pilots discovered that the King Air was actually headed to Jeffco Airport (BJC) in Broomfield. The helicopters followed and showed the arrival on live television during the 5pm newscasts.

But some journalists are asking why the flight went to a different airport than the one filed in the flight plan. They point out that Boulder's airport is right next to the jail, where Karr was booked; Jeffco is miles away, and the motorcade snarled traffic as it made its way to the jail. The sheriff's office clearly knew where the plane would land: it assigned two cars to Boulder but sent the motorcade's SUVs to Jeffco.

Did the CSP's pilots, Sgt. Matt Secor and Technician John Takahashi, deviate from their flight plan in an effort to deceive the news media?

The Boulder County Sheriff said in a press conference that the choice was Secor's. He cited weather and the short Boulder runway as possible reasons why the King Air didn't land there.

The AWOS at 1V5 reported light winds and no precipitation at the time of the landing. The CSP pilot undoubtedly knew the length of Boulder's runway before he filed the flight plan.

We hope to have a response from the Colorado State Patrol later today.

I am sure there was a reason for the deviation from course and I beliveve the pilot knew what he was doing and why. And to me, that's all that counts.

Before someone complains about the content and this thread get's locked.

Several co-workers mentioned that all the media air traffic around the airport most likely made it unsafe to land at Boulder regional.

FWIW KCNC's bird was hanging around Jeffco intially but an interesting on air-debate with their news desk had them heading to Boulder minutes before the CSP aircraft was cleared to Jeffco.

Ranges of interest for the media gathering. 152.870-153.110, 161.600 to 161.800, 166.250, 450.0375 to 450.975 and 455.0375 to 455.975.

Also for those with newer Uniden scanners the preprogrammed "News" service search range is very handy in the Boulder area right now.

No, the media was at all airports in anticipation of his arrival.

You can't deceive the media on these high profile type events!

Now the bird of choice was to lower the profile without a doubt.
There were six members of the press on board the plane back to the U.S. !

It sounds like boulder might be in some trouble. The DNA sample taken, does not match..

It is good to see however they decided to keep the Beech craft/King air, last I heard they where talking about "upgrading"

BOULDER, Colorado (CNN) -- Schoolteacher John Mark Karr will not be charged with the murder of 6-year-old beauty pageant competitor JonBenet Ramsey, Karr's attorney said Monday.

"The warrant on Mr. Karr has been dropped by the district attorney," public defender Seth Temin said outside the jail. "They are not proceeding with the case."

He said a hearing scheduled later Monday afternoon has been canceled.

Temin also said he was "deeply disturbed" that authorities in Boulder brought Karr from Thailand with what appears to have been scant evidence.

Colorado authorities have not commented on their decision not to pursue charges against the man named in a warrant alleging murder, kidnapping and sexual assault on a child.

But CNN's Denver affiliate, KUSA, reported that the DNA sample taken from Karr does not match DNA found on JonBenet's body. KUSA quoted two sources in a bulletin on its Web site.

KUSA reported that samples of Karr's saliva and hair were taken in Boulder after his arrival Thursday evening. Those samples were tested over the weekend by the Denver Police Department's crime lab.

Those tests ruled out Karr's DNA as the foreign DNA left on JonBenet's body when she was slain in December 1996, the station reported on its Web site.

Was this any surprise to anyone? The man just wanted the attention and you could see he was clearly enjoying it by looking at his face. Now the scum can just go back to the delusional hole he crawled out of.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, August 28th, 2006
Revision of Earlier Press Release re: the Release of John Mark Karr

MEDIA RELEASE Monday, August 28th, 2006

TO: Boulder County Area Media

FROM: Cmdr. Phil West, #303/441-4609

RE: Revision of Earlier Press Release re: the Release of John Mark Karr

Pursuant to the decision by the District Attorney’s Office to request that the arrest warrant be quashed by the District Court this afternoon, Mr. John Mark Karr was released from the custody of the Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Karr had been transported from the Boulder County Jail to the Justice Center by Sheriff’s deputies and was being detained pending his scheduled court appearance when the Sheriff’s Office was notified that no local charges would be filed. It was the Sheriff’s Office’ understanding that Sonoma County, California, authorities did not plan to assert a hold on their outstanding misdemeanor warrants. As part of the routine process of releasing prisoners, Mr. Karr was queried via the NCIC-CCIC computer system at 2:15 p.m.; there were no entries requesting his detainer.

Shortly after Mr. Karr’s release from custody at 2:55 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was informed that the Sonoma County District Attorney did indeed plan to file charges against Mr. Karr on five counts of possessing child pornography and was willing to extradite him to California. A NCIC computer entry had been made at 2:41 p.m. by the California authorities, presumably prompted by media reports of Mr. Karr’s impending release.

Though released from the Sheriff’s custody, Mr. Karr was still in the company of investigators from the District Attorney’s Office when the Sheriff’s Office was notified of Sonoma County’s intentions. Mr. Karr was taken back into custody by Sheriff’s deputies shortly before 4:00 p.m. He will be held at the Boulder County Jail pending extradition.

The Sheriff’s Office apologizes for any confusion that our initial press release may have caused.

This media release supersedes the one posted at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and may also be found on the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office’ web-site at: www.bouldersheriff.org
