Outside of the individual clubs, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), and the RACES organizations, who or what organizations has helped support maintaining the Tennessee Amateur Radio and GMRS repeaters for emergencies?
  • Are their any State Government advocates for amateur radio?
Appologies if this information is readily available.

Sorry,
I saw this post awhile back. I just don't have the time to properly treat it, and assumed someone else would take it up. You asked a giant question. I don't know of anyone supporting GMRS for emergency use, but it is possible. far as a state point of contact for amateur radio, arrl google for the tennessee people and they will know.

If you are asking like financial support or helping find tower sites, I doubt the state has any internal or pass through funding for such a project. Google for Tim Berry, he has done a ton of work in this realm and is based in Knoxville. Someone in his group would absolutely know. Don't forget MARS and there are a couple of other groups, too. SHARES? I forget now.

Best answer is talk to your local EOC. They will know and be able to at least find you a jumping off point.
