State Police Communications

Have the State Police Troops changed their individual troops to Regions? Because I have been hearing Troop A units, calling Region 2 on Troop A Disp 1.

Been this way for several years. Region 1/2/3 is the combined dispatcher in BR that handles multiple troops on LWIN. Everything else including each troop desk, is still the same.

Additional: Region 3 just recently added Troop D? I don't know what they were before. I usually just look at which channels are patched and that will identify what channels are active. Like right now Troop F Dispatch 1 is patched with Troop D Dispatch 1. They share one dispatcher while Troop E and Troop G get another. All will be referred to as "Region 3" on the radio. Each Troop radio user doesn't know any of this, they are just taught to ask for their region and someone will be there. Kind of like ATC for pilots. This changes all the time, based on traffic load I'm sure.

That's messed up because you have a dispatcher at Troop D , sending a Trooper in Troop E that may not even familiar with that area

Well, they don't "dispatch" in the traditional sense. They log traffic stops/other info and control the patches. Any troop specific information is handled by the individual troop desk which will chime in as "Troop # Desk".

It's been this way for years now. The "regions" have changed periodically but the format remains the same. Unless you run SDR software while simultaneously listening, you may not be aware of channel patches. Until you figure out that you hear a Troop A car report in on Troop B's channel and similar. It took software for me to figure out what was going on as the scanner just displays the active channel. I just assumed it was wrong or the radio user was wrong.

And then I became a normal SDR user. Now I understand alot more about the system, as expected.

Also, depending on state police load, its not unheard of to have a trooper from A over to LAF or Slidell to assist with a wreak. I did find out that when LSP works a fatality, they must have 4 troopers on scene until a certain point. After that, the other 3 can leave.

Several state have combined comm centers. I suspect soon enough they will be outsourced to another country.
