State Police Simulcast Sites

I see on the State Police page, that there are 3 or 4 Simulcast sites. What are these used for? Also, I now see a Mt. Tom 2.. What would that be for?

For increased and improved handheld coverage, these areas have decided to add extra towers to cover a large area, or entire county.
