Received a full scale signal on 45.980 mhz (C203.5) with a CW id when I drove past the Childersburg prison yesterday. No voice comms.

Do the prisons still use this freq?

I passed a prison bus with what appeared to be a UHF or 800 mhz antenna but no low band whip.

I haven't heard 45.980 here around Montgomery for years., BUt still do hear the CW ID quite often/ checkout the 453-454MHZ band also that is used most around my area, all will have PL of 203.5 for the Adult 1's & PL of 123.00 for the Dept of Youth camp facilities. also look in RR Database her efor other specific 1's.. LO band 45.160 is/was also in use in some areas
Also the 800MHz are [probably Southernlink or Nextel :(

I spotted a DOC transport bus on I65 about a year ago, it had that unmistakable VHF-LO whip on the drivers side front. Don't know if they still use the radios though.
