What program is that screen capture from?

On most Windows operating systems ... look for the 'PrtSc' key somewhere near the top right edge of the keyboard.

Pressing Alt-PrtSc captures the active window while pressing PrtSc captures the whole screen. By capture, I mean it places the image on to the system clipboard. Run Paint and select Edit -> Paste. The image will now appear inside Paint's frame window. Now you can save your image to a file.

Ok, why is it so hard to get anyone from South Dakota to respond to questions and answers on this States setup. Obviously somone submitted the frequencies and Custom Frequency Table that is in this sites database.

I plan on making a couple of trips down there this year and would appreciate a little more info on whether I am on the right track with the Extended frequency table I programmed or if I am completely off base with it. I'm sure that a lot of others in the State of South Dakota would like to know also.

Is there no one who has a digital scanner monitoring the system wth a correct setup willing to fill us in.

The lack of submissions from South Dakota has me mystified also. Either there is a complete lack of scanning enthusiasts in that state or those who have the information don't like to share it? Nonetheless, as more county and municipal users join the system, increasing the overall activity. More scanner listeners will probably purchase new radios that can decode the systems.


From what I have heard, there are some significant coverage issues with the system and more tower sites are planned for the future. However, monetary funding is the key issue and state officials have applied for Homeland Security grants to help expedite the project and add more radios. I believe they applied for the next fiscal year because they did not file the paperwork in time for this year.

We're not a very dense population up here, except for a few parts of the state... :? I'm new, myself, but the listening is reasonably good in the SE part of the state (Souix Falls area).

SDTRUNK System

I was able to gather information from FCC records while on a visit to SE SD. Also there was plenty of information via google search. My uncle is in county gov out there and reported that they had over a million hits (per month?) pretty much equally divided btw, State and other agencies, i.e. federal, local. Even the Civil Air Patrol is assigned talk groups. I DEFINATELY plan to have a digital radio on my next visit out there.

There is also a web page. sdtrunk.com? that has a radio users guide. This has been a major problem with so called non performance of trunked systems. Lack of user training.

Another think S Dakota has done is put state radio admin under IT folks rather than Law Enforcement. This profides an arm lenght approach to system design and management and IMHO, this has contributed to the success of the system in that it was designed with no pre concieved ideas but rather starting from zero with user NEEDS being a priority.

In reviewing the FCC records, you will see that the assigned frequencies come from many different radio services.

South Dakota folks seem to know how to "Git er Done"!
