A friend of mine just got back from Austin DMV where he was told the new state computer system (DMV and MDT's in police cars) is down state wide. According to the DMV clerk, Texas just changed its computer system in the last week or two, and it has apparently crashed big time.

Anybody else hear about this or have anymore info?

Apparently this has been an ongoing problem for a week or two. Once texasemt13 finds this thread, he'll share all the stuff he's heard about it over the airwaves from the DPS dispatchers. I heard one announcement a couple of days ago, and John told me heard another announcement where they asked the troopers to not sign in to the system from their MDT's as this would reboot their system at the dispatch center(or something to that effect). Seems like quite a boondoggle.

Oh I will?

Not much to add, like david said evidently it isn't helping the Regional Comm Centers when the troopers try to login after being booted off.

On Sunday (as I best recall), San Antonio said that their link was down with TCIC but that they (the troopers) should try to login through the Pierce server, because San Antonio had established "a link" with them (Pierce Comm Ctr). After this announcement the radio traffic died down (so I speculate that the "link" worked through Pierce and the MDTs were at least able to hit TCIC).

I also recall DPS having some statewide problems with their MDTs late this past summer, though I don't recall the specific problem.

Our system should be back to normal by Monday. It is just taking time to clean up the workstations and servers. This did not effect any of the databases such as DL, MVD, or TCIC/NCIC since they are not windows based.

DPS8504 NICE to see you Still visit! And I have a question for you. On a recent trip to Mexia I get good trooper activity off Waxahachie and the Fairfield repeaters. But in Navarro Co. I don't hear any DPS on DPS frequencies. Do you by chance know which Tower IH-45 Navarro Co. Trooper's use? I know they have Navarro SO channels but even on there I was missing conversations.

Good to see you again.

For those who follow other State Stuff. I Identified TABC Ft. Worth this morning on 156.0600 PL: 136.5. I submitted the update. Getting GREAT ducting this morning.

Heard TABC 4 or 5 times, about a week or so ago. This has been the extent that I've heard them in over 6 months.

I think I might head down to the rivers here(rivers=toobing=alcohol in New Braunfels) this summer and see if I can hear them on their mobiles.

No "floating bars" per se but bars you can float right up to on the water's edge. That's a pretty nice aspect.

They have recently (early 2008ish) passed regulations prohibiting anything wider than 4' in the city limits on the waterways (which is the slower part of the Guadalupe River and all of the Comal River). So no big blob tubes, or 8 seater tubes anymore but the NBPD still gets to put their inflatable raft in the waters, with its 25hp motor and all. Hypocrites.

I used to work down along the river too like texasemt13, and you would not believe the amount of people that think they don't have to obey a police officer because they're in a Texas waterway. I haven't seen the drunken tourist yet to win that argument with New Braunfels' finest. It's usually funny to watch these belligerent people get caught up to the learning curve.

Many times, especially if the tourist is stubborn, they just let the persons float along their way. Now in New Braunfels, the Comal river is actually pretty short, so these people who think they fought the law and won, float around one more bend and have to exit the river, as there are no more public exits beyond that. Well, as soon as the person gets out of the "Texas waterway" and steps onto city property once again, off they go to booking, as the cops are already there performing crowd and traffic control. And that's not to say NBPD won't come into the water after you either; piss them off enough and they will.
