I am wondering if anyone knows the status of the state of Florida's radio systems, particularly for the FHP.

Where is the Motorola trunked system still in use, where is the new M/A-COM system up and running, and is VHF high band still being used anywhere? I do know that the old Motorola system is still in use in southeast Florida, but I am not sure about other areas of the state.

M/A-Com is used statewide pretty much, Digital Provoice which is bad eneough, but on top of that.. FHP uses full time encrypted TG's. Can we say overkill?????

The Motorola System is still be used for the central - central east and south to the Keys...Basically Daytona south with Orlando to the West.
M/A-Com is being used from the Southwest - up the coast, and over towards Jacksonville. As to the Panhandle.... it was being worked on...you can look up the status on MYFLORIDA.COM
I have seen several M/A Com vehicles recently in the North Palm Beach County and Martin County areas.....
What makes it interesting is if you look how Fish & Wildlife has its districts you will see some officers, vehicles and vessels with both sets. The lines run across state so it invovles two seperate systems and in some cases patching. As mentioned it is PROVOICE, with encryption DES and also utilizing the ESK keys for access - programming

Both the Motorola and M/A-COM systems are running in Central Florida, unfortunately since it is EDACS ProVoice Digital+ESK, I am unable to monitor that system like everyone else that is not an user of the M/A-COM system, that's why I liked the old Motorola system because you can monitor it if you have proper equipment (aka RS/GRE PRO 96 or Uniden BearCat 250D/296D/750D/796D). I think the state of Florida should of built out the Motorola system instead of switching to at the time ComNet/Ericsson (now of course M-A/COM).

Thus the lawsuit. But no matter who wins, its too late to turn back on the M/A-Com system.

gotta love all the interoperability in FL,

within a 50 mile radius of me, we have the following public safety systems:

Jax (FCRS) Motorola ASTRO w/ Law enforcement Using full time encryption
Clay County public safety, LTR multinet
FHP, Statewide macom w/ encryption
(a couple of counties are still on VHF-HI as well)

i hope none of them have to talk to any of the others..

I know that FHP in the Tallahassee area(Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden, Liberty, and Franklin Counties) are on the M/A Com radio's. That is all they are using.

Panhandle Status

After talking to several friends of mine, every county west of the Suwannee River is on the new MA/Com system. Also, I have heard that there are numerous dead spots in the area of Bay and Washington Counties, not that it really matters, we can't listen to it anyway.

In Lee County, is the state police / highway patrol using the new digital and encrypted 800 MHz TRS? Or are they still using the old VHF frequencies? Just wondering. I might move to Lee County with my parents in a few years.

Ok, thanks for the information. I had fun listening to the old VHF simplex system. :) I'll can still listen to the Lee County TRS and the VHF and UHF frequencies instead.

14 months ago, we were in Lee and the Mot II smartnet is very active, but unfortunately, the FSPD is on the EDACS Networked w/ESK.

Also, depending on where you move to, you may be able to track Charlotte, also smartnet II and portions of Collier EDACS Networked, which is analog, plus Hendry and Glades County's Conventional.

BTW, nice area of Florida but they have many "me first" drivers , however most of them are "come 'ers" :) and there are very few  unkind gestures. Guess this means you'll be expected to drive that way  , but unblessed by the locals.

My dad wants to move to Pine Island or Lehigh Acres. I might be a little too far to listen to Collier County. I might be able to listen to Hardy county and Charlotte. Thanks for the info. I don't know too much about the Florida's geography other than it is a peninsula and the land is mostly flat.

I don't drive, but I might take the bus in Lee County.

The state wide trunk system is fully operational as of 2-1-05.

The Florida Statewide Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS) is now operating statewide, according to M/A-COM, which developed, installed and operates the system. The 800 MHz system provides radio coverage over 98% of the state and its waters up to 25 miles from shore. It also links first responders across 13 state agencies, M/A-COM said. M/A-COM was awarded the SLERS contract in 2000.

If they mean the M/A-COM system, then that statement is false. Here in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach Counties (at least), the Motorola system is still in use.

Hmmmm.... would that be on the local Motorola systems??

All the EDACS sites are fully operational and are supposed to be in full usage. There may be a few Troopers and such that still have the Motorola Radios... and use them for local operations... but they are supposed to be migrated fully onto the EDACS Provoice with ESK and full time encryption for thier standard ops..

Though knowing State Agencies.... there could be a few things not on par with whats "officially" stated...
