I am going to be traveling across I80 to wells and then north to jackpot and beyond

anybody have a good guide for county by county what mtn tops i need to have a continuous path for copying primarily NHP but listening to others would be nice too

so many mtn tops to go thru and find out where they are

i assume each mtn top only carries traffic for that area
(winnemucca nhp traffic wouldnt be on an elko mtn top right ? )
unless it was needed to be broadcasted to a wider area ?

thx for any help

I would load the Winnemucca, Argenta, Mary's Mtn, E. Twinn, Elko Mtn., Peeve(Wells), and EllenD (Jackpot) sites from the database. Also 155.055 is a goodElko county-wide frequency to monitor as it is the common output for all SO mountaintop repeaters. SO, ambulances and some fire departments are dispatched on this frequency. If you're interested in the Amatur systems, reply and I'll give you the linked repeater frequencies for the corridor as well.

Drive safe...

I took a trip like this last year, but heading south toward Death Valley (traveling in Nevada). It took a lot of time to figure out where the mountains were and which to program.

SUGGESTION: Next to each repeater mountain top listed, we should indicate the county it is in in the DB!!!

was i correct in that each mtn handles its own traffic ?

if a unit is in or near winnemucca.. would it also be heard on other mtns.. marys etc ?

how vast is the simulcasting on the system etc ?

thanks

I can't speak for the whole system, but I can tell you I have been in northern Nevada and heard NHP units in Las Vegas, and I was in the Death Valley area and heard NHP units from the Reno area.

so using that table looks like i need sites in these counties (from sac to jackpot )

placer-nevada-washoe-storey-lyon-churchill-pershing-humboldt-lander-eureka-elko

a great I80 wiki Interstate 80 in Nevada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but it's missing Storey county at about mile marker 28-30 or so mustang ranch is NOT in washoe county

great group effort i think i am ready for final loading thanks to freescan and import takes no time at all

i also plan on dumping in washoe county also

Last time I was up that way I listened to Storey county on some conventional frequencies. So don't forget to look through for conventional frequencies in addition to the Nevada TRS.

Yes - in Reno area NHP operates on the Washoe County System - Program in the Metro Simulcast - these are the Red Peak and Peavine Mountain Repeaters which are simulcast - you may want to put in the Virginia peak repeater for when you get east of Reno metro area

yes i did put in virginia peak - theres a lot of license info thats bad on the site listing for this as i went through i found about 10 sites that had bad license info etc

here is what i put in to get from sac to jackpot

Olympic Valley (CA-Placer Co) PLACER
Homewood (CA) PLACER(CA)
North Tahoe (Truckee) (CA) NEVADA(CA)
South Lake Tahoe (CA) EL DORADO(CA)

The license for the Red Peak/Peavine simlucast is WPUF-364 - keep in mind if you pull it up in the FCC database it will contain both the pre and post rebanding freqs - the rest of the sites are under several different licenses some of which have some freqs on one license and other freqs on a different license - confusing at best - I can say the the Washoe County RR database does have the correct info for the Metro Simulcast and reflects the recent rebanding - not 100 % sure of Virginia Peak but it is probably accurate as well - also as an FYI the talkgroups for NHP are the same on the Washoe system as on the NSRS system - The washoe system is one of the core systems in the Nevada Interoperatibility Scheme and was designed from the get go to interface with the NSRS system - Joe
