I am located in central florida I happen to have an old V3M flip phone that has worked reliably despite Verizon warning me that services would stop for the past 3 years.

I have read that 3G services will end Dec 31 2022. Imagine my surprise after changing the battery last week, my phone works on and off, now mostly off. No System Found. Any Verizon folks out there that know specifically the status of the network regarding this old tech? Yes I know, buy a new phone. Just trying to buy some time because the options are dreadful. Is CDMA2000 1X-EVDO a "3G" Service?

Yeah, that's 3G.
Even some "4G" phones are deceptive.
I have an unlocked LG made for Canada's Telus network that does LTE data, but doesn't do the proper voice over LTE for new networks.
In the case of that LG it can be worked around with Skype for calls for example.

But anything strictly 2G and 3G probably won't be of much use soon.

I mean I know of some rural areas and roaming partners with T-Mobile for example that they might hold on, but urban areas will probably be strictly LTE and 5G.

A year or two ago T-Mobile had a big LTE outage that lasted for hours, but the older networks still worked.

It is kind of unfortunate to not have this redundancy left soon.

I am wondering if the PRL list needs to be restored in my phone. It was always a source of trouble in the past. I wonder how to get that reloaded if I am not on the network?

In my area, they've already started shutting down some of the older services to make way for new stuff. We started seeing phones stop working middle of last year.

Somewhere I have the notices from Verizon announcing it, and I'm pretty sure that it said that -all- service would end in December, but that service would start getting spotty at best as the old stuff was shut down and upgraded.

I just today got an alert on my Honda that the Acura Network is changing away from 3G and that a software update is needed to retain telemetrics. Since I don't subscribe to that I am not worried but if I was I would have to run the updater. I suppose it is pretty similar to this.

I took the phone apart once again and put de-oxit on the antenna , ground, power and signal connectors going to the RF module. I have only one bar, but it is functioning again.

It’s possible the site 3G equipment failed or they “made it fail” per VZW they will not replace EVDO/CMDA2000 equipment if it fails.

I just lit up a fiber circuit for a former site to convert it from a T line. Once the fiber was active they powered up the new LTE/5G radios and unplugged the 3G gear.

They have been telling me for several years that my service would be cut off Dec 31, 2018, 2019, 2020 etc. Now they say end of 2022. I think they are pulling out capacity sites. I happen to be on the fringe.
