Steelgate (aerial refueling)

Has anyone ever heard of Steelgate? It was mentioned in an older issue of Scanning USA in a listing for arial refueling freqs for Michigan. Next to the freqs it said "contact steelgate", so I think it may be some sort of control freq. I did catch some chatter on it a while a go but it was not understandable. The magazine said their freqs are 385.700, 381.100, 40.65, and 40.45.

STEELGATE I believe is / was operational tanker coordination for STEELHEAD MOA in the Thumb.
I have never heard traffic on these. Matter of fact, I don't hear any refuel traffic on any of the freqs I have.

I wonder how active they are up there, I have only heard them once. Its weird because Black Talon in Alpena usually comes in better than Grayling.

It wouldn't be active too often, I think. Wouldn't it only be active on weekends and during the summer when the Army/National Guard has their two week training. And also only a Units from a few State Army/National Guard train at Grayling!

I hear refueling on 238.9. Also I hear them on 139.625 AM. 141.900am, I can hear them from Londont Ont Canada as they fly up near Bay City. They use a place called Steel Head as their target. I don't know if Steel Head is a city or what up there, but they will use objects on the ground as targets. I have also heard them going to Ohio to Youngstown. One night, the scanner was running through about 90 mil frequencies when I heard a communication from someone saying they had two thirsty Tomcats in need that was on uhf. Lately I have been hearing them on 290.1 . Good luck I will check back in here in a while. Ya need to get some post here.

I don't know if Steel Head is a city or what up there, but they will use objects on the ground as targets.

Steelhead is an MOA that is over the northern thumb of Michigan. On 139.625 you are hearing the 180th FW from Ohio, but who are you kistening to on 290.1 and 141.9? Is it Selfridge, do you recognize any call signs? I don't have those freqs listed.

Sorry it is not Bay city it is Bad Axe, and also Steelhead. I don't know who the are but I can hear them as they drop down for a landing, so I think it is Selfridge. Call signs, on the VHF, they don't use them, talk is very everyday except when discussing targets or problems in the plane. On UHF Demond is one call sign that I remmember. I have not heard them now for about 2 weeks, and I always have them on scanning. When they return to base it is usually on 318.2. Anyway I will keep you posted here. Next time they are on I will post.

Heard them at 1515hrs on 318.2 and 290.420. the call sign for 290.420 was Tayhaus ( don't know if that is the correct spelling), but it sound just like i spelled it. I think they were just leaving. By the time I got over to the radio, there was much left to hear, but I did get the freq.

You are hearing Selfridge, their callsigns are Tejas and Demon. 318.2 is Selfridge approach and I hear them on there quite a bit.

Sting 11 in a dogfight (training) right now on 139.625 am. Don't know where yet.

They are returning to Toledo. Heard them on 139.625 and 290.420. When I hear them they are getting clearer. I would assume that they are travelling from north to south.

They have just come back on today, same freq. time is 0950 hrs.
