• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. I recently received the BCt8 scanner as a gift. I am very confused as to how to use the trunktracking. Does this scanner already have ID's programmed in it or do you need to do that? How do you know what the trunking frequencies are? I looked at the wikipedia and I still don't understand. I would appreciate if someone could post step by step instructions on how to do this. I live in Canada. I don't understand anything about DEC and Hex because it involves difficult math that I don't understand.

Thank you.

Hi. I don't have anything hooked up to my computer. It is the Uniden BCT8 Scanner that I don't know how to use. This is my first time to setup trunking and I don't know how. I am having trouble understanding the steps from the manual. Am I supposed to be using a computer for this?

You can use software to program the scanner and it makes things much easier. Look in the database and see what system you want to program.

I just need steps on what keys on the scanner to press for the types of trunking and to know the ID's and the Hex and Dec. I hope I have explained this right.

Where are you located in Canada? Once you know what system you want to listen to it will show you the TG ID's and the DEC and HEX values.

I really don't want to say exactly in Canada but I live in the york region area. For example where the areas of Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan are. I am not very good in math so I don't understand Dec and Hex.

What Providence are those cities in? You only need to program the DEC or HEX values for a trunked system. For normal analog frequencies you just enter the frequency.

Sorry about that. This is the province of Ontario. I will try again to figure it out and I will let you know how I did. Thank you for helping me.

You can also post questions about the BCT8 in the Uniden Scanners forum and any Eastern Canada specific questions in the Eastern Canada forum.

Hello gonyou96. Since you have the same scanner as me I was wondering if you can assist me on how to use the trunking. I do these steps in the manual:

1. I press trunk and I hear the beeps and see trunk and numbers flashing.
2. I select the bank 51-60 and then I select E2-UHF
3. I press E and it comes to Pro9F and I press E again at that point I am not sure as to what frequency I enter.

Then when I press hold to go back and choose Pro9id, I am at this 1--1 -- --- I am confused to what I put in. I guess this scanner does not have built in id's for Ontario? that would have been easier if all you can do is press trunk and it would scan everything. This is my first time figuring this out so it is a bit difficult to follow the manual.

Thank you.

ASE you should post your questions in the Uniden Scanners Discussion Forum many members have a BCT8 and can tell you how to program it by hand or with software.
