 I have been trying to find Federal frequencies in the 160.00 to 174.00 MHz band with my Uniden 396t scanner but I am getting a lot of bogus frequencies when I do a search between 160.00 and 174.000 MHz and leave the step size on Auto.

What should I set the step size to to stop this and so the scanner shows the true frequency ????

Try 12.5 khz. NFM
But keep in mind what you do find may be encrypted or at the least be P25.

It will search a little slower, but you're more likely to catch something.

What do you mean by Bogus??

FYI in the 160-162 you will get RailRoad and Maritime.

Try 162.0375 thru 174.0000 at 12.5 Khz

PS , since your in Canada, are you looking for US Federal or CN Federal ? Two different Animals.

If I set the step to 12.5 it the scanner skips over a lot of frequencies I have in my list, I am looking for Federal frequencies.

Skips over what Frequencies? Can you provide some examples. Freqs and who you expect to hear on them

Also, are we talking US Federal or Canadian Federal, big differences

Disregard the skipping over frequencies I found the problem, I have the scanner step set now at 12.5 and I am looking for US Federal frequencies, thank you.
