At around 15:00 (3:00PM) MST a structure fire was reported at MacGregor
Hall in Sterling, The fire is located on the 3rd floor I believe on the
North side. This is an apartment complex for low income, elderly and
disabled. Apparently the fire was started by a person whom they
responded to yesterday for an attempted suicide. There was chatter about
yesterday's call and today threatening his "significant other" (not
exactly sure on the relationship) that he was going to burn her up. I
guess he was also fighting the ambulance crew.
From what I could tell, all the SFD units were on scene along with
several SPD and SO cars. At one point our 4th ambulance was called out
to Wal Mart to assist an issue there! Merino Fire was called in to cover
the city due to all our units engaged in the MacGregor fire.
Currently the situation appears to be under control, I haven't heard of
any major injuries which I hope there isn't. All evacuees will be at the
community center and appears to be about 40.
I want to give or SFD, PD, SO, Ambulance crews and dispatchers a big
round of applause. They were awesome and saved a whole bunch of lives
today.
