I would rather have a single whip antenna.

I know many Federal Government agencies use them on their muti band radios, since I see them in use while out making deliveries in the work truck.

They look easy to break.

Anybody ever use them for receiving? They sure look awesome!
I have 2 of these and they work great, You can tie them in a knot and they come right out with no damage, they hold up well to hitting trees and in parking garages and they are almost impossible to break. Stico makes a flexi whip single band you can cut to frequency 136-900mhz and they also can be tied in a knot with no damage.
The only downside is the price.
I also have tried the Tram Model 8079 Multiband antenna and it preformed the same as the Stico at 1/3rd the price

Mine has the Harris-branded model, looks the same but stiff as a thin piece of rebar. I'm about ready to swap it for a Laird multiband model. I don't care how obvious it is; people are oblivious.

They are not cheap. I see several models on vehicles fed vehicles that come through the shops I work with. Surprising amount of mini vans and little GM vehicles getting them. TT

As mentioned, the major selling point for these is their extreme flexibility. We recently bought some where I work because our vehicles regularly go into parking garages.

Historically, the rigid antennas would get taken off for clearance and then forgotten about by the users....
