No, they aren't into PG County at all. They are right on the border of the two counties. I know there are PG Fire units that have MontCo radios for when they cross the border but I don't recall police ever doing it. Doesn't mean they don't, just that I have never heard them.

Dave, what did you have for breakfast? I'm sure you're serious but you've got to admit that reading about a buffalo stampede in Baltimore is rather unusual. I can't find any leftover traffic about it so how did it turn out?

Buffalo Take To The Streets Of Pikesville
Tuesday, April 26, 2005
WBAL Radio and The Associated Press

Discouraging words are heard all the time during morning rush hour in Pikesville, but seldom is seen a herd of roaming Buffalo.

Ten of the animals escaped this morning from an address near Anton Farms Road and Stevenson Road north of the Beltway. And Baltimore County police worked for two hours to corral the animals before they wandered onto the Beltway or other major roads.

The buffalo were finally corralled about 9 am at a tennis court at the River Oaks apartment complex.

Area residents have lined up around the fenced tennis court for a view of the buffalo herd.

Police are filling a kiddie pool with water so the animals can get a drink.

Orange construction fencing is being erected to guide the buffalo from the tennis court entrance to a vehicle that will carry them away.

Several of the buffalo have been herded aboard a livestock truck, but about four others are proving to be very stubborn about leaving the tennis court.

County police needed 13 police cars, a helicopter, a tactical unit, and help from the State Highway Administration.

Re the Buffalo around Greenspring Ave - I absolutely loved that comment about what you had for breakfast! LOL :D

There was traffic about this on Metro Traffic (450.4875); at least 1 guy there was going to go off duty and take his ATV to help out.

If you've never been near buffalo (I have - I used to travel extensively in the Pacific Northwest, and there are more than a few folks there that raise them much like you do cattle) they are big, nasty and very tempermental. It's wise not to pxxx them off.

Baltimore City Fire TRS TG2512 (C1): 3 alarm fire...not sure of address but thought I heard "Jenna" Drive.

Broadcasting on web site.

This is an apartment fire. They managed to keep it to a single apartment on the third floor. The fire also breached the roof.
Fire units on C1, Pump units on C2, EMS units on C3.

Fire reported under control at 2340.

The correct address was 2707 Jeremy Ct. which runs right off of Jenner Drive. This is 2 minutes from my house, but I missed all the action due to Passover celebrations.

Guess this buffalo caper is going to be used for a laugh around the country. Baybum (Mike) saw it on Fox news and I just saw this on the AP wire:

Apr 26, 11:47 AM (ET)

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) - A herd of buffalo somehow got loose and wandered around an upscale neighborhood Tuesday, disrupting traffic and alarming homeowners before officers managed to corral them in a tennis court.

More than a dozen police cars and a police helicopter were used to herd the roughly 10 beasts, authorities said.

"Somehow they figured it out; I've got to give a lot of credit to the creativity of our officers," police spokesman Shawn Vinson said.

Authorities have identified the owner of the buffalo but did not release the person's name immediately.

Residents in the Baltimore suburb first reported that buffalo were meandering along the road about 7 a.m.

Police shut down several major traffic arteries, including a section of the Baltimore Beltway, while they tried to anticipate which way the buffalo would roam.

Officers eventually managed to maneuver the buffalo onto the tennis court about a mile from where they first were spotted.

Prince George's County Beltsville District 495.2125 and simulcast on PG County Sheriff freq 155.58: Barricade situation...female in house. Converse Court. She got out of a car carrying a shotgun, ran into the house. She's got a two year old in there with her.

When approached by an off duty sheriff's officer, she pointed the shotgun at him and told him "Get the hell off my property." Not smart. So now they've got to go through the whole drill...setting perimeter...calling special ops, etc. Units descending on the house from everywhere. Sigh.

Morse callsign being broadcast on 155.58 is KUG45. Most of comms are being simulcast but some are only on 495.2125.

Officer on way to scene has a "departmental" -- meaning he crashed his car at Brandywine and Route 301. They are calling for fireboard to respond which sounds like injuries.

Okay, now they've separated the comms. The incident is on 155.58 and regular Beltsville District comms are on 495.2125. Air One will not fly due to the high winds.

Command orders all comms stay on "A" mode, no "B" mode....meaning he wants them on full power hitting the repeater, not the simplex mode.

Woman just stepped out of the house...officer tried to make contact but she went back inside. Report she was unarmed and argumentative.

They just got the woman's name and phone number from a neighbor (which won't be reported here). Dispatcher tried earlier to get the number from 411 but couldn't. Commander on scene wants dispatcher's supervisor to attempt telephone contact. Commander wants all officers to take cover behind something "heavy and solid."

Telephone contact made with the woman...she says she's done nothing wrong and is not coming out of the house. Negotiator now on scene.

They are dispatching a medic unit to the scene...just in case.

And later...they are still placing units on the perimeter, chasing basketball playing kids away from the neighborhood, closing roads all around the development and getting set to negotiate with the woman. Apparently, from traffic, this woman has a previous incident where she was also armed. (The terrible 7A situation.) Commander says no more units needed...no county nor sheriff's deputies...only SOD can come to the scene.

Commander giving a complete description of the house to remotely located SOD units...doors, windows, shutters, steps, etc in case they have to storm the house. Commander also advises his troops that the woman has dogs so be careful in case she turns them loose on the officers outside.

The woman stepped out of the house into her backyard...she was swarmed, brought down, hog tied and is under arrest. They are now ready to check inside the house. 10-3 is lifted at 1606...everything back to normal. Total time of operation about 1 hour, 25 minutes. They are calling for an ambulance to the scene so I guess she got hurt during the takedown. The child in the house turned out to be five years old and they are attempting to find family members to come care for her. And this ends this episode of "How Prince George's County Turns."

Ha! Al....I also love the comment about my breakfast selection! Must admit, when I first starting hearing the comms on 8240, I thought it was either a spoof or some bizarre training exercise. Very entertaining, to say the least. SWAT was talking with a vet and then communicating on-air about how precisely to best take out the brainstems w/ shots, if attacked by the animals. Before SWAT arrived, Garrison units were repeatedly asking for them to expedite their response w/ the long guns. For a while, there was fear that the beasts would continue heading in the direction of 695. Just hearing the DNR unit's response, when dispatched to assist MSP/Balt Co with rampaging buffalos, was a bit humorous. Even SHA got into the act, setting up multiple detours around the area to keep cars out.

Almost a made-for-Disney kind of event.......

Prince George's County Palmer Park District III -- 495.1375. Trooper 2 helo coming to assist police look for the three mooks that shot up (and probably killed) another male. Pinebrook Avenue is the location (near Landover Road). EMS reports victim has multiple gunshot wounds and no pulse. Mooks are armed with a rifle.

Dispatcher on channel 3 wants Trooper to adjust his radio since he's bleeding on channels 4 and 7. Trooper 2 says..."Uhhhh...I'll see what I can do," sounding puzzled. He comes back at lower amplitude so maybe he just turned down his modulation - or moved the mic away from his mouth to make it sound like he did something.

Police dog has a track going from Pinebrook toward Route 202 (which is Landover Rd.)

Victim being taken to PG Hospital operating room. Incident is on channel 3 and regular ops for the district have moved to channel 9 (494.3125).

Trooper 2 is searching out ahead of where dog is tracking but he sees nothing. Report on dog says he's circling around back to the crime scene. Doesn't sound good. And with that, I drop this incident since I hear my bed calling.

Tech Rescue

Tech rescue on TG 3-2. Apparently, a male working at the BGE Plant on Carroll Island Rd was doing maintenance on a boiler and was struck by a metal beam. The beam knocked him into the boiler, and he is now 36 feet below ground level....

WJZ has some video.

There was also a 3 alarm apartment fire around the same time in the Brooklandville/Pikesville area.

Anne Arundel County Fire TRS (also on VHF 154.34): Accident at Benfield and Route 97...Trooper 2 and Trooper 8 to the scene to fly out victims.

Washington DC TRS District 1 (also on VHF Citywide 159.15): Car chase, bailout, pedestrian struck by the fleeing car, suspect cornered in an alley at 18th Street.

The mook was caught after entering an alley with no outlet.

While processing the car, officers found a gun (they say "GUN" in D.C. - not that silly 10-32 or Signal 7A) and drugs.

Fires are weak news!!!And boring news I might add...I never listened to fire on my scanners and never will...The only cool thing about fires are being there in person when they happen possibly, but thats it.... If I watch the news and a fire comes on, Im looking for the remote already...Please spare me with the tired fires...You have to admit that fires are the most boring subject in the news...The only reason that local news groups carry the fires is cause they have no other local news to put on ...911 was different so you cant compare but other than that, unless you are a pyro, fires are dumb news to bring up or waste your time talking about, lol!!!
