Ben

Are they PA ArNG or regular Army? Here in MD the ArNG guys use a different callsign when they are working with local law enforcement.

I always assumed that any helos I was hearing on the state's TRS would be PAARNG helos based at the Gap or Johnstown...didn't think they would spend the time and money equipping anything else since transients could just use the Army lowband.

The OH-58's that do counterdrug ops here use "Boise" callsigns on civilian ATC...not typically very formal with callsigns on the actual local LE channels (usually just "air to ground" since it is a civilian LEO talking to his counterparts).

Mystic and Bandit are the two callsigns I usually hear from Gap helos...with the occasional helo just calling as Guard-### on ATC. The Mystic and Bandit callsigns seem to either be related to pilot or mission...not sure, but I know by the radio RID that it isn't the same bird using a particular callsign all the time.

Ben,

A couple of years ago the MD ArNG traded in it's OH-58s for the UH-72 Lakotas. When they work with LE they use Recon & Smuggler callsigns.

Guys,

According to sked the BA's wee supposed to practice from 2-4 PM this afternoon. Errands kept me away from radios but was back by 3PM and didn't hear anything on the radios or see anything in the air which I usually do when they practice over Annapolis (on 10 miles away from my QTH)

Did anyone hear them? Maybe they cancelled due to wx.

Guys,

Not sure what's going on---if anything---but there's a gaggle of tankers off the NJ coast all in the same area at the same time.

Have Opec 76, Team 21-23, Maine 86 and looks like Steel 62 is headed out there as well.

Could be just training but looks odd to see all those tankers hovering around in the same area.

I was fishing at Briery Creek Lake in central VA this morning. First saw a CH-47 heading east to north of the lake. Then during the late morning two pairs of what looked like F-15s were heading west at low level to begin a VR. One pair passed over the southern end of the lake, the others were even farther south. Didn't have a scanner on me at the time. I was also hearing what sounded like mil jets at high altitude, never could see them though. A little while later when I was done there was a flight of four CH-53s heading SW beyond the NW side of the lake. I scanned my helo and USMC/USN banks and got nothing.

Igor 47 57-1441 Sioux City is moving across the country too.

Seems odd to see a AZ bird on a NYC Cap...

Most comms is 260.9. There is also some ATC use on 363.1 and 364.8 and a special ATC use freq during NYC CAPs 353.75
Sounds like RTB back to Shaw now for the night at 2030 local.
Never caught any fighter interplane freqs. But they did force at least one small plane to land at a nearby airport this morning. They hailed him many times on 121.5 with no response. Each time you could hear the urgency increase in the fighter pilots voice.
The TFR is good through tomorrow so they might be back at 8 am.
