Unless they (what agency?) are somehow flying under special rules / on a NSM, pretty sure they are squawking something. Perhaps they are not Mode S equipped, not on an IFR flight plan, etc. I would have to know more about the flight profile. Extremely doubtful that they just turned their transponder off because that would FU ATC routing (transponders also report altitude.) Maybe they've been assigned an altitude block, need more info. Even the Fed's LE aircraft are assigned transponder codes. Cannot speak to them being ADS-B equipped yet however.

Feds like FBI are still active in the DC area but they stopped using mode-s and went to mode C because of all the website articles about tracking their surveillance flights. Occasionally I'll hear a LIMO flight with ATC.

I know the sites to use, but could not find the flight. (Unless it was the "blocked" flight, that would have been in the expected distance range.)

It was not blocked, however it fell off ads-b between approximately Mississippi and Texas. Might not be feed providers in that area. As you can see from my earlier post/photos, it has now landed.

Did you notice they changed squawk while enroute? Leaving Houston it was 7275 but when landing it was 2127.

It's routine for flights of any type to be assigned new squawks as they enter different airspace.

Expect there to be a combat air patrol on Wednesday due to all the VIPs being in one location at the same time. A TFR has been established.
WITHIN THE AREA DESCRIBED AS DC SFRA SFC-17999FT MSL. EFFECTIVE 1812051400 UTC (0900 LOCAL 12/05/18) UNTIL 1812051900 UTC

Yesterday (3 Dec) was out putting up some Christmas decorations. Around 1300 local an Egyptian C-130, in full desert camo, passed over the house on final for BWI.

Didn't have radio with me so don't know callsign he used.

Interesting. Can't wait for 2020 to see how they get around the ADS-B mandate.

Also, a couple points of clarification. Standard Mode S transponders do not support ADS-B as they send a "short squit" when interrogated by ground radar or TCAS that contains only 7 parameters, one being an aircraft ID. ES transponders send an "extended squit" once per second containing up to 49 parameters, including a more descriptive aircraft ID, GPS location and other data that enables ADS-B functionality. Plain old Mode C transponders send 3 parameters, one being pressure altitude. Some standard Mode S transponders can be upgraded to ES transponders by updating software and / or system boards. Pilots don't differentiate between Mode C and Mode S; they simple select "ALT" just prior to takeoff (sometimes done on ground prior to entering airport movement areas,) whether the transponder is either C, S, or ES capable. Note that this applies to civilian type aircraft and avionics - military type aircraft use transponders have more modes and crypto capabilities, although some military trainers and utility aircraft use civilian avionics.

I actually had my PlanePlotter running today for a change but it wasn't configured to create the daily report so I don't have it logged.

The FAA has no authority to tell other federal agencies what to do. Just like how they do not get licensed via the FCC. Granted, they try to be cordial, and coordinate, etc.
