Let me know when you are ready and I'll send me my most up to date list. I'm also attaching a list of military callsigns, that I keep, for you to look at. It might be worth putting on the wiki. It too, is updated quarterly.

OK but it's far from time yet. I forgot you had that list - it would then be worthwhile to strip all the old callsign information out too (I had left it in since I didn't have any reliable info on which callsigns belonged to whom)

Both lists can easily be uploaded, and I think I will leave them as is. Easy enough, with a little surgery, to import them into numerous apps to be used - like FreeScan's EZ Grab for the frequencies, for example.

I'll zap you an email when it's ready. Likely not for a week or two.

Unfortunately I did not. I used to have scanner recorder on my work computer but the IT department removed it. I see the Duke is active today similar to yesterday and there is a tanker in the area. Let me fire up the old Icom R2500 and see what transpires.
Excellent! Since you're from that area, is there any good spots to go near there that can receive that traffic? I'm from near Dallas, PA and would like to take a monitoring trip up there, maybe I can catch it on a day when there is activity in the area.

I have pulled over at Sizerville State Park between Emporium and Port Allegany, PA when I knew the Duke was going to be active. One time I managed to see a KC-135 refueling with four A-10s as they flew directly over me. It was a pretty cool sight. I would say you could easily pick up any activity there.

Guys,

My Florida guys just sent this. Might be worth putting in the rotation since we sometimes see the 22nd ARW guys up this way.

He sent:

A new one.

252.500 22nd ARW KC-46A inter-flight

They have been flying out of Cecil Field since last week.

Finally found them tonight.

Re: GHOST 01 heard last Friday (13th).

Checking the LiveATC archives confirms the type as an MQ-9 out of SYR. Routing southbound via VILLS but lost track of it after ZNY 134.600.

First time I've heard GHOST used. Its very common, almost on a daily basis, to hear (on VHF) APEX 01, COBRA 01, PYTHON 01 MQ-9s working SYR and ZBW Watertown (135.250) into the GRIMM and OSWEGO ATCAAs. They usually depart around 08:30am-09:30am on typically 8 - 10 hour missions.

Updates to the MILITARY CALLSIGN LIST

APEX F-16C/D 138th FS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Change to -> APEX MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY
COBRA F-16C/D 138th FS NY ANG SYRACUSE -> Change to -> COBRA MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY
GHOST MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Add
PYTHON MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Add

If anyone is interested here's ATC audio from GHOST 01 departing SYR. Note the hold point see and avoid climb procedures, and the navigation confusion with ZBW.

We went star gazing at Cherry Springs state park (highly recommend it) this summer and the KC-135 is right near there currently. It is a high open area world renowned for its open skies for star gazing. It would probably be a perfect area to get comms and see some things. When we went there was no activity so we only went at night. (on the map its the square with the green area next to it) If you have the time check out the Kinzua bridge ( Kinzua Bridge State Park ) it is breath taking.

I was under the impression PAX river was not for civilian use. Maybe former military gets a free pass. I don't follow PAX that closely to see how often non-military use it.

PAX River is used by local general aviation guys every now & then during the week, but especially on the weekends when the military guys are quiet. The PAX River guys return the favor by sometimes using local aflds (Easton, Salisbury) for approach training.
