Re: GHOST 01 heard last Friday (13th).

Checking the LiveATC archives confirms the type as an MQ-9 out of SYR. Routing southbound via VILLS but lost track of it after ZNY 134.600.

First time I've heard GHOST used. Its very common, almost on a daily basis, to hear (on VHF) APEX 01, COBRA 01, PYTHON 01 MQ-9s working SYR and ZBW Watertown (135.250) into the GRIMM and OSWEGO ATCAAs. They usually depart around 08:30am-09:30am on typically 8 - 10 hour missions.

Updates to the MILITARY CALLSIGN LIST

APEX F-16C/D 138th FS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Change to -> APEX MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY
COBRA F-16C/D 138th FS NY ANG SYRACUSE -> Change to -> COBRA MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY
GHOST MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Add
PYTHON MQ-9 138 ATKS NY ANG, SYRACUSE NY -> Add

If anyone is interested here's ATC audio from GHOST 01 departing SYR. Note the hold point see and avoid climb procedures, and the navigation confusion with ZBW.

Thank you for the callsign changes & updates. Got them in the list for the next update.

No worries, thank you for providing the list.

The 138th FS NY ANG SYRACUSE stopped flying the F-16s in 2010 so I guess you can delete these 2 as well.

COORS F-16C/D 138th FS NY ANG Syracuse NY -> Delete
GATORS F-16 NY ANG SYRACUSE -> Delete

PAX River is used by local general aviation guys every now & then during the week, but especially on the weekends when the military guys are quiet. The PAX River guys return the favor by sometimes using local aflds (Easton, Salisbury) for approach training.
Thank you, it sounds like a beneficial arrangement for all. I have friends in the area and one of these days it is on my list to check out PAX. It seems an amazing place.

Yes it is. I only wish I could hear some of the low level/ground comms. From my location (near KBWI) I can only hear PAX activity if it's above 5,000 ft.

If you do go down there give me a shout. I have an extensive list of PAX freqs I'll send you.

Here's the VINYL lineup so far.

Hope they all brought their Long Johns.. Looks like they are getting ready to take some AK fighters
to a warmer climate.. Travis space A has lots of various flights to Hickam Hawaii Friday.
Everybody going West this weekend :)

If anyone's interested you can keep track of the flights by getting on an online SDR and tuning in San Francisco Radio on 5547, 5574, 11282, 13288 or 13354 KHz. They'll be alot of civair on those freqs but the military acft will be mixed in there.

For those not aware of it there is an ARINC website that shows the current active HF frequencies. Also note the ARINC HF/VHF Voice Coverage Pacific chart.

Of course SATCOM CPDLC has replaced most HF communications. You can monitor ACARS/CPDLC SATCOM live over the eastern Pacific and the Atlantic at this website.

L-Band for uplinks from ATC and C-Band for downlinks from aircraft. AT1 messages for CPDLC. Only one channel is monitored but it's common to see military traffic on it.

As an example caught this back in September, Oakland (KZAK, OAKODYA) working PEARL 11 a KC-135 (60-0329) doing AR with SPIRIT 21, presumably a B-2.

Actually I see that reception has been improved to cover all the Pacific (as well as Australia/East Asia). Must be getting the satellite over 143.5E now as well. (Okay a little out of the area of this thread).

From a couple days ago.

Does anyone know what SAA means under the "group" column? Google tells me it is sex addicts anonymous. I KNOW that isn't right lol.
