Terry- What zoom lens do you use? I have a 70-300 (480 equiv crop factor) on a Canon T7i. Those look like at least a 500mm lens? Beautiful job you do. I think to get a tripple header is the most exciting. Hear the aircraft on the radio, see it on the ADS-B map, and then see it or hear it go overhead! And photographing it is a home run!DARKSTAR on 292.300 (the AWACS) talking to fighters

Nice setup. So like a 640mm crop factor. Nice. Yes nice clear air this time of the year too. No smog lol.Nikon D7000 using a Nikon 80-400 lens
Yeah definitely one of those days when you see it visually, and on the computer (on ads-b exchnage plus on my Kinetic basestation screen as well) and hear it on the radio.

Ahh very good thanks for the info. I never owned or researched anything but Canon's so I didn't realize there was a sensor size difference. Now that I read a little more on the web about Nikon cameras, I see what you are saying. 600mm still pretty good. Plus after crop zooming on the computer, you can see the subject aircraft pretty darn good! You seem to be mixing concepts.
The crop factor is dimensionless.
640mm would imply "35mm equivalent focal length" NOT "crop factor". You are also assuming Canon and Nikon crop sensors are the same size but this is not the case. For a Nikon the crop factor would be 1.5 (ie. the sensor is a touch bigger than Canon's) so the 35mm equivalent for Terry's lens in this case would be 120-600mm
