Possibly EMPIRE 23 F/A-18s recovering at Navy Oceana. Sounds like a hydraulic problem (HYD 2A?) which often means reduced braking, nosewheel steering or flight controllability on a jet aircraft. The caution and warning messages in the glass cockpit are traditionally terse in my experience.

Here's the brief clip about the possible trap from 383.7 at 3:28 pm. I was listening to AMBUSH 11 westbound for a gas stop at KSUS on the other radio. The AMBUSH drivers were telling their life stories on 299.5.

Stars and Stripes reports next Weds Feb 2 Senator Bob Dole gets Arlington burial with military honors.
May be some flyovers for that I assume. Should be good wx in the forecast.

"He was severely wounded in fighting as a 21-year-old Army platoon leader in northern Italy in 1945. As he charged a German position, a shell fragment hit him, crushing two vertebrae and paralyzing his arms and legs.
He spent three years recovering in a hospital and never regained use of his right hand. He became a lawyer and began his political career in the early 1950s with a term in the Kansas House."

Much like the request for liveatc links where people have used it please can we have a location and not just aircraft type for this kind of thing? I expected your general locale (which would have been more interesting - to me) rather than the usual non-US flights

Point taken - I was multitasking a bit so should have provided more detail. I do however review each post in this thread (and any others I watch - particularly if they have links) and do comment when I feel my information may be useful.

The HH-65, perhaps BLACKJACK ONE, at 5:20 in the video appears to have a scrolling electronic sign in the window that reads 'U.S. Coast Guard'. A little ID for Target of Interest intercepts?

When Blackjack 1 is after a TOI (target of interest) the scrolling electric sign changes to something like "change to 121.5." When they are flying around on training missions (which seems to be about 98% of their flights) they just show some generic message.

Thanks. (y)

Apparently that sign is only on the intercept birds and has been operational for the past several years. From a well-placed source who has reported reliably in the past, originally a freeform message could be entered. You know the rest. After a few bawdy, insensitive and politically incorrect slogans were uh, inadvertently displayed, the system was modified to only allow selection of a message from an approved list of texts.

I've seen the same thing with ACARS hijinks over the water in the pre-satcom and HF-DL days. Idiot pilots (not to be redundant ;)) would type whimsical, satirical and sarcastic messages about the company, the union and coworkers knowing that they would not be received out of VHF range. Of course, the delete function was not perfect and some of these stupid cached texts would be sent to dispatch as soon as the aircraft got back in ARINC or SITA VHF range. :)

These threads have never been strictly about the Mid-Atlantic region.

I'm well aware of that as my posts from the past couple of years show.

I agree. Whilst the title is " Mid Atlantic" I think most of the guys on the thread are interested in military activity/developments in general. I know I am.

Not arguing about the general interest and it's one of the reasons I enjoy reading this thread as you know. It doesn't get too weighed down with pedantics and stays friendly.

Thanks Terry. I know from you it's never 'filler'.

All:
I appreciate and enjoy the variety of posts in the thread and the contributions everyone makes. My request was to improve readability not criticise.

P6 has a good vid of HMX-1 action from annex on Ft Mcnair.
I always thought they came from Quantico but decoys at least are closer.
Secret Service goes on a wild goose chase (literally) before Marine One departs the White House. - YouTube

I find his videos informative. He knows where some of the "goodies" in the Metro area are located and shows them along with a good mix of the unexpected things he finds while out and about. He is located here --

No worries. Criticism is about improving things. Obviously a Food Critic would not be taken seriously if he or she told the chef, the food was bad but you should make it even worse. For me this is a hobby and it also went hand in hand with over 40 years of my working career - if people do not critic your work - you never improve.
