RRR6664 C-17 ZZ172 inbound somewhere. <1600ft now
Haven't heard it, must be Dulles, have it 200ft now.

Haven't been listening for it with ATC. In July it was JENA100. In December it was LIMO100.

Sorry, I meant a physical P25 Radio ID Number, not a callsign.

For several nights a week for the last several weeks there has been a turboprop circling at low altitude for hours on end in the MRB/HGR area. I'm thinking it is related to SNC at HGR.

This is a typical Mode S hit -

AE1D8C #USA < 03:48:24 VVPR517

That particular day, 1/14, he departed the area at 03:48.

Has anybody identified him?

EP-3 156517 from VQ-1

Haven't heard or logged it myself with mode-s since I didn't have that hex in my database. No entry means no alerting or logging of it.

The F8F Bearcat--the last of the
big radial engine fighter aircraft!

From brake release, the Bearcat
could climb to 10,000 feet faster than the F-4.

Blue Angels
1946:

Al Taddeo, one of the
original Blue Angels, died at the age of 94. Al was a Blue Angel from 1946 to
1947 flying Hell Cats and Bear Cats.

This is a great video,
enjoy, meet Al and feel the pride and love of country.

Subject: Coast Guard to establish security zone for State of the Union address

Coast Guard to establish security zone for State of the Union addressMap of the security zone for the 2015 State of the Union address

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard will establish a temporary security zone Tuesday in designated waters in the National Capitol Region for the State of the Union address.

The security zone will be in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 12 a.m. Wednesday, which may limit or prohibit navigation by commercial and recreational waterway users.

The security zone will include the Potomac River from the Francis Scott Key Bridge, south to approximately two miles north of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. The security zone will also include the Georgetown Channel Tidal Basin as well as the Anacostia River from the 11th Street Bridge to its confluence with the Potomac River.

Entering or operating in the security zone is prohibited unless authorized by the captain of the port of Baltimore. Vessels already at berth, mooring or anchor at the time the security zone is implemented are not required to depart the security zone.

"We have coordinated closely with our inter-agency and port partners to minimize the impact of the security zone," said Cmdr. Michael Keane, chief of response at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. "We do this while still meeting security requirements for the president's State of the Union address."

Persons desiring to transit the security zone must first obtain authorization from the COTP or his designated representative. To seek permission to transit the area, call 410-576-2693 or use marine-band radio via VHF-FM channel 16.

For those keeping tabs. C-17 ZZ172 is out at Nellis. Likely carrying support personal and equipment for the 8 Typhoons that are also out there.

EURO13 flight 307.025 to ZDC 371.9 after first hearing them on 141.7 for interflight. Went back to 307.025 to get clarification for the handoff, they had tried 322.7.

1226- to ZDC 319.0 descending to FL280, was at FL340 earlier

I've also logged three gliders today on mode-s.

Holy crap, I don't know if anybody saw him on ADS-B or caught any chatter from KDOV, but a C-17 just buzzed the beach northbound at Ocean City MD about 1330 hours local this date, about 300-500' altitude. Man that was cool. Was going way too quick between apartment buildings from my perspective for me to get a tail number.

According to Mode S logs was probably Reach 402 C-17 # 95-0102 from 437th AMW at Charleston SC or C-17A # 07-7169 436th AMW Dover (Rider 70) or C-17A # 01-0191 436th AMW Dover (Royal 50). I'm betting it was one of the local Dover birds.

Come to think of it, I think the tail stripe was yellow, which would make it 95-0102, right? Seems 436 AMW has blue stripeys.
