2215Z 260.900 PT HUNTRESS - SNIPER 03/04 (F/A-22 1st FW) check in while COSMIC 43/44 check out.
I actually heard one of the SNIPERs today ...

2148Z : SNIPER wkg U/I on 260.900 - 'Confirm last receipt of words .....'

It's a bit disconcerting because the VT F-16s have been using SNIPER more often, but their interplane is usually VHF. But they do use some of the same HUNTER/GK freqs that the F-22s use, so I'm not always sure who it is.

Re: SNIPER

Hi John,

Glad you caught this as I just put 1st FW down very quickly. The SNIPERs here in the Guard Dog CAP definitely had F-16 sounding xmtrs, again thanks!

Guard Dog is over

SAVVY 23 with ZDC-Blue Ridge numerous times in the 0535 - 0545 local timeframe inquiring about the WX in Guard Dog, waiting at Martinsburg for the airspace to go hot - 285.6

0545 - SAVYY 23 contacted Potomac, will monitor victor freq 135.52, asking Potomac if they have a updated freq for HUNTRESS, "the ones that we left SELFRIDGE with we've had no luck contacting them" - 350.250

0547 - SAVYY 23 made first contact with HUNTRESS on 260.9

0614 - Tanker 17 with Potomac, entering Guard Dog - 135.525

0618 - CHEVY 23 copies - 260.9 (not SAVVY like I initially thought)
0618 - 23 reports squawking 5706 - 260.9
0624 - 23 gives tail as 86487 (86-0487??) - 260.9
0624 - Tanker 17 wants to know how much they're looking for, 23 says 9000 between the two of them - 260.9
0626 - 24 cleared for contact - 260.9

0721- 24 cleared for contact - 260.9
0726 - Tanker 17 tells 24 he took 5 - 260.9
0730 - 23 took 5 also - 260.9

0802 - ongoing -- CHEVY flight used 260.9 for A/A, track numbers, WX etc

0806 - Tanker 17 with 23 about the deteriorating WX in the airspace - 260.9

0816 - Tanker 17 with Potomac requesting fl 250 to see if the WX is any better - 135.525
0823 - 23 to Tanker 17 wanting to know how the WX at 250 looks, 17 says it looks a little clearer in the wx radar in the south at 25 but it still sucks - 260.9

0825 - HUNTRESS with 23 asking if they're going to need to refuel before they RTB, 23 back with they're not scheduled to RTB for about another 2 hours but they'll need another 1 or 2 AR's - 260.9
0825 - HUNTRESS wants to know if they can RTB to 20 minutes without refueling, 23 back they can RTB in 20 without a refueling - 260.9
0825 - CHEVY 23 cleared to work RTB through center - 260.9
0826 - 23 requests authentication - 260.9
0827 - Tanker 17 cleared to work RTB through center - 260.9

0830 - CHEVY 23 with Potomac out of 23 for 250 - 350.250
0833 - Tanker 17 entoute at 250 for now - 135.25

help to ID some 123.45 a-a traffic ?

I am trying to id or establish what type of operation may be going on here.

- today,~ 11:20am -12:15pm, philadelphia area.
- varying ss throughout period from barely readable (1) to +5/60
- seemed to be orbiting or similar

- heard various brief discussions / comments:
- "did you see the size of that thing !"
- something about an viewing an "iris"
- discussion of automated system showing 'camera offline'. Discussion of the system seemed to indicate that the system is directed from other than the aircraft.
- "when they take-off, they will be moving out really fast"

There were two units in conversation, one male, one female. possibly a third for a brief period.

The female seemed to be providing the information, but not really directing things.

There was some some chit-chat: drinking at bar

I believe that I have heard these same units talking previously, on several occasions. In the past, they seemed to be tracking closely to one another, discussing distance and talking about instrumentation or similar under IFR weather ?

My memory seems to be that they have been prevalent on weekends, if they are indeed the same units.

any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

jack

Jack,

I do know that 123.45 is a widely-used interplane freq for airlines. On several occasions I've heard chit-chat between folks on different acft chatting among themselves----especially from airliners offshore going up and down the coast.

Maybe that's what you heard.

Well, they are still active right now, 12:45. Male/female, about 1.5 hrs. since first heard. Currently they are +5/60 ss. They are discussing refueling: "not terribly familiar with the area", "don't want to get caught in a bind".

Yes there are other a-a conversations going on as well.

1:45, active again. Seems they/she went in for fuel and returned. Still seem to be in a pattern. Talking about having 'food down there', kabobs'. Female indicated that she didn't eat. She will wait till they land. Again, seemed to be possible third unit. Greg(g) is is the male.

She is "up at 16".

Hello Tin and Group,

It's been about a year since I checked this forum so I thought I'd see what I have been missing and get the latest on 1FW Eagle/Raptor ops. Its great to see the info is thorough and interesting as always. I'll keep an eye an out for more good posts on Langley to get the latest on call signs, freqs, and GCI.

Keep up the great stuff!

Nobody caught any CH-53s in Jefferson Co, WV? Saw a single one heading SSE? over Summit Point around 1000 and then two around 1230-1300. Couldn't do much to tune into the first one, I was in the middle of a race.
No luck finding the others, though I heard something very briefly on 120.45 and the signal was strong.

Well, I know there is the VT detachment @ Langley, but when they deploy back & forth, they usually are MAPLE. I have heard SNIPER used on VT VHF interplane freqs and/or when in one of the northern MOAs [mostly Falcon].

I couldn't tell [in this instance] if they were Falcons are Raptors .... I only hear Guard Dog activity if someone's high enough and pointing their transmmitter in my direction. Or if it's one of the NH tankers heading down or back.

Hello to the gang. Haven't disappeared - just not feeling very well recently so have been sitting in the back of the cave and not listening much. I also want to mention that I've got lots of emails to answer and just haven't been able to get to them all. I will as able. Guess I missed an interesting CAP with several units participating over the weekend. I'm also happy to see some names on here I haven't seen in a while. Good to have you back.

Just jumped on to toss up today's log:

N404PA MTH4PA 09:46:46.656 B707-321B USAF

That's something different, at least to me.

Brian
