Exercise

Guys,

Got this off the Milcom list:

WALLOPS — The first live East Coast test of the U.S. Navy’s Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense program will take place until Tuesday and involve a target launched from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility here.

A Navy cruiser and destroyer will detect and track the target with radar, develop fire control solutions, and simulate firing missiles.

No missiles will be fired from the ships because it is a tracking exercise.

The ballistic defense program is the sea-based mid-course component of a system designed to intercept and destroy short to intermediate-range ballistic missile threats.

The Missile Defense Agency and the Navy cooperatively manage the Aegis ballistic defense program.

The exercise, called Atlantic Trident 2011, is being conducted by the commander of the U.S. Second Fleet.

It gives ships the opportunity to track a live target and simulate intercept of a short-range target missile in the midcourse phase of flight.

Pete,

I don't have Salty Dog 329 on my list but his numbering fits in with other Salty Dogs that are F-18s variants. Since he's using UHF freqs I'm guessing that's who he is

Here's my list of the Salty Dogs that I know of:

The altitudes don't match. But around that time I logged Brazilian Air Force C-130 2475 which has previously displayed a flight ID of CASCA75.

Ron your Yanky 97 was KC-130T #164442 VMGR-452 from Stewart ANG.

Logged a Navy SD-420 going to Willow Grove NAS at 2225z or 1725 local.

Also logged unknown mode s AE0441 dropping down here 17k to4.9K 0138z-0149z.
Nothing logged on UHF radio 2035 local.

Noticed a JUMBO 09 working from Dover today a Westover C-5A callsign but only C-5 showing
was C-5M 83-1285 so maybe Westover C-5M crew training.

Mark,

Thanks for the ident on Yanky. Will check with one of the guys I know near Westover and see if he has anything on any of their crews doing C-5M training.

Thanks for the ID Ron. Salty Dog for "SD" or "Sierra Delta" didn't even occur to me. I've always heard them use the full ID of SALTY DOG.

Not sure if this helps, but I heard JUMBO 09 doing some AR work up here in Maine on AR-212 with MAINE 86 before he headed down your way.

CANYON22 F/A-18 inbound to Pax for a touch-and-go then RTB Oceana. 281.8

Anyone have SLASHR03 AE1299 ? MC/AC-130?

1811- Looks like GAF829 A310 1502 is heading towards Rwy30 to depart Dulles.

1821- NIGHTHAWK-13 approaching Springfield. 134.35
Flight of two, MUSSELL-16/17 passing by KJYO enroute to Mt. Weather.

1825- Someone talking to Bluegrass on 126.2. Too weak to make who, kind of sounded like OMAHA. I think Bluegrass wanted them to move for the inbound flight.

1827- GAF829 told to line up and wait. 134.425

1828- MUSSELLs to Bluegrass, picking LZs. 241.0
1836- It's OMAHA-8 out there, now on 241.0. I have N578AE airborne.

1850- GORDO66 E-4B 73-1677 departing ADW. 118.95

KC-135 62-3250 NICE01 coming into the area. May be the CAP tanker.

RAMROD71 flight with HUNTRESS on 260.9

EA-6B AE137B showing 00163528 is flying around

1939- NICE01 makes contact with Guard Dog 135.525

1950- RAMRODs on 343.7
2005- RAMRODs reporting lots of static on their radios, TX and RX. I hear them alright, hear GD and PCT too, until PCT told NICE01 to switch from 135.525 to 126.55 because of static. I heard NICE01 much better on 135.525

2102- By the looks of it GORDO66 is loitering in the area somewhere. I wonder if that could be the cause of interference.
Some strong signals on 230.9 and 325.4

Hi Guys,

Thread title corrected as per Tinear and also made this thread a sticky!
Have fun guys!

Thanks Ron. Much appreciated.

Nice copy on the CAP tonight. RAMROD 71/72 (F-15, 334th FS Seymour-Johnson) on 260.9 along with the NH-ANG tanker NICE 01. Guess they're going to continue with the new habit of changing the tanker callsign for just about every CAP. HUNTRESS is exceptionally loud from my location. Sounds like he's transmitting from an antenna at BWI.

2211: HUNTRESS tells RAMRODs they can plan to leave the CAP as fragged (but didn't give the fragged time). Earlier RAMROD leader asked if they'd be leaving on time....228.9
2230: REACH 7188 (C-17A, 07-7188, 437th AW Charleston) working Dover CP with arrival message...3 pax and needs a boatload of fuel...349.4
2231: HUNTRESS asking RAMRODs if they'll refuel before RTB...RAMROD responds that if they leave at the planned time, they will not need to refuel again...228.9
2238: HUNTRESS passes weather at Seymour-Johnson for the RAMRODs upon their expected arrival time...also confirms their alternate base is Langley...228.9
2248: RAMROD asking for an update on Langley weather...228.9
2254: HUNTRESS to RAMROD 71 telling him to join up with his wingman and standby for weather...228.9
2255: HUNTRESS to NICE 01 telling him to contact ATC with his 5 minute note...228.9
2256: HUNTRESS gives wx for Langley...viz unlimited...also tells them to contact ATC for 5 minute notice...228.9
2256: NICE 01 to Potomac TRACON asking for clearance in 5 minutes...requests FL 350...gets clearance through Woodstown...126.55
2258: NICE 01 cleared out of the CAP...given authorization by HUNTRESS...228.9
2259: NICE 01 to Potomac reporting he's ready to scoot...cleared to Woodstown...126.55

2301: NICE 01 handed off to ZNY-Westminster and cleared to Boston...still requesting FL 350...134.325
2302: HUNTRESS clears RAMROD 71 flight off the freq...71 tells him they'll talk to him once they're on the ground...228.9
2303: RAMROD 71 flight handed to ZDC-Irons and check in there to begin the flight home...360.85
And that's all from me tonight.

Travis, I only have it on my SBS log. It's showing as an AC-130 but unit is not identified.
