Jim,
Well I don't yet. My wife goes to school and works up in Thornton during the week and I go up there to stay the weekends when she stays there. I guess there are a few agencies that are starting to use it in that area. Plus I'm one of those tech nerds that likes to have up to date stuff, even if I can't use it much yet :)

I can see where this is going to be habit forming :)

Taco 41 on 251.25 is talley-ho on sparkle target and laser coat of the target. Taco 41 request sparkle on the target due to enviromental light washout of target.

This is cool. I'm going to get a better external antenna. Any recommendations of the best MilAir antenna?? Also if money was not a problem, which radio is considered the best for MilAir.

You should search the Antenna and Mil Air Forums for many answers to your questions. There is so much to an antenna its hard to start. Everyone has different thoughts on what is "best." If money is not a problem, buy several types and see what works best for YOU. Also remember coax is like a leaky hose. The more you invest in your coax the more signal will get to your radio.

Reach3365 was a C-130, and Cobra-10 was an EA-6B.

Yep that's what I've been doing all evening. I think I'm going to get a Scanmaster MilAir antenna and am looking for a BC780XLT or BC785D. Both have been reported numerous times in different area's as being very good on MilAir freqs. The Pro-43 that I have is a little bit used and abused and I fear won't be around much longer. Did get a kick out of listening to the TACO transmissions this evening.

If anyone has experience with the above mentioned radio/antenna combination, I would appreciate your insite.

TIA

I use both the 780 and 785. I like the 785 more because it has 1000 ch's. And what antenna are you refering to from Scannermaster?

I was leaning towards the 785 myself. Here is the antenna I'm thinking about. There are 2 others on Ebay that may be decent too......

Scanmaster Airmaster - http://www.nevadaradio.co.uk/acatalog/scanmaster-antennas.html

I like this one the best I think - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=330095289047&rd=1&rd=1

This one isn't bad looking either - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=270087319605&rd=1&rd=1

What do you think ???? Do you think these would work ok ??

Hi: I use the Airbase Civil Airband Base Antenna available at ebay from England. It is a little more expensive but works great. I get all military and civil from Littleton, including all the ground controllers at DIA, Front Range, Buckley, Centennial and Jeffco. It works well with other frequencies too but it is designed just for air traffic. If money is no object I use the AOR5000A which is a wonderful receiver. My pro 2096 and 97 do not pick up any ground controllers with the same antenna while the AOR picks them up . I am pretty far from DIA-46 miles-so needed a really good setup to receive the controllers so I invested quite a bit. It is an addictive hobby. Adkad

adkad,
Well when I said money was no object, I guess I should have followed that up with.... "within normal scanner offerings" :) $2600 for a part of the hobby I'm just getting into is a lot to bite off. Maybe down the road before I retire in a couple of years. One fine radio you have there !! Right now I have a Pro-96 and 2096 for the trunking system in C-Springs area. I'd like to get just a general duty scanner that has proven itself to do well on the MilAir freqs and use it as a dedicated scanner for that use. So far the one that comes up the most is the BC780XLT and the BC785D. I'll check out the antenna you mentioned. Did you take a look at the ones I found? What do you think?? Thanks for your suggestions. This is going to be fun !!

yeah-almsot got divorced over that radio. But it is a great radio. I also like my pro2096 as well for local trunked systems and for listening to the Buckley trunked system. I've heard some good things about the scantenna so I would probably go with that one. How high will you mount it? Adkad

From the ground it'll be about 30' up. I have a tri-level home on the side of a mesa. The valley spreads out to the southeast of me, right towards the airport. Should get a decent signal I'm hoping...

Well the more I dig into the different hardware choices the less confident I am that I'm choosing the right stuff. I read a number of posts that the Scantenna is great on VHF air freqs, but not so well on the UHF MilAir freqs. So I think I may stay clear of that one for now. I've found 2 other discone types. For the prices they both seem like a good deal. Anyone have any experience with either of these....

http://www.mfjenterprises.com/products.php?prodid=MFJ-1868 and the nearly identical

http://www.antennawarehouse.com/Scanner/Superdiscone.htm

Also I'm watching a couple of BC785D's on Ebay. I'm afraid that they will eventually go for as much as a new BCT15. The specs on the BCT15 appears really good for airband and MilAir with great sensitivity. Has anyone used this scanner for MilAir use and what are your impressions. Hopefully someone will share their experiences with it to help me make up my mind :)
Again thank you for any shared insight.
