Took my exam on Sunday. My VE was supposed to file it electronically that evening. Still not seeing anything. Got my hopes up that I'd be in there by Wednesday because our class instructor said it happens within three days or so.

At what point should I start to panic?

It should be pretty quick with electronic filing but I wouldn't sweat it too much. We usually tell folks at our sessions that they should see it in about a week. We do postal mail, though. If it's not there Monday get in touch with the lead VE and ask him to follow up.

Joe,
I think I'd give it a week or so before doing that panic thing. That '3 days' thingy would certainly be nice, but I wouldn't count on it. Here, we do the 'mail it in' thing, and that takes maybe a week or ten days for any results. There's always at least two steps in the process, from the Ve's to the ARRL/W5YI or whoever, and then to the FCC. Everybody would appreciate it if you can figure a faster way of doing it! Week-ends don't count, so there's another thing to consider...

Yeah the VEs at my exam told me 3 or 4 days. 2 weeks later my call finally showed up in the database. I wouldnt sweat it until at least a week after. Congrats on passing!

The time can vary for a variety of reasons. I would say that if it does not show up within 2 weeks, I would definitely follow up with the VEs who gave you the test. A few years ago, there were times where we filed electronically on Saturday afternoon and the callsigns appeared the next day....Sunday! Then there have been instances where its 2, 3, 4, 5 days or even a week before it is processed. A few months ago, I know the FCC had some computer issues and everything got backed up for a week or so.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

If I remember correctly, the local VEC sends it into his sponsoring organization (like the ARRL). That organization then sends the info to the FCC for callsign assignment.

How soon everybody does their thing is unknown.

With the local testing I have participated in, the person got their license in about 2 weeks.
