Today 8/21 currently at 3:55pm I am hearing 62-1M units giving positions and asking how their reception is. This was similar to when San Joaquin SO was testing out various spots throughout the county before switching to P25.

Is CHP for Stockton switching to P25 soon?

If they were doing location checks that would have been related to maintenance for the low-band sites.

P25 is only used for extenders when the VHF extender has been removed or the officer is using a new vehicle.

I think they are testing the new mobile antenna like they did here in King City
They were giving out locations when they were doing that? The 700 repeaters at the AO are supposed to act as an extender for officers in and around the property. Were they trying to use it for wide area?

Why does CHP use VHF while everyone else is either using Analog FM or Digital P25? Is CHP always going to stick with VHF or will they eventually switch to a different radio system?

Thanks,

CHP does use analog VHF low FM

I know I was asking WHY does CHP use VH/FM while everyone else is using regular FM and P25 Digital. Was looking for the pros and cons as to why CHP sticks to VHF (low FM). And if there was any reasoning as to whether or not CHP plans to switch to P25 in the future.

What do you mean regular FM? I guessing you mean VHF HI and UHF 700/800mhz? The biggest reason the state doesn't have any money.

you can check out this thread on why they don't switch to another band or p25 http://forums.radioreference.com/ca...m/181031-will-chp-ever-go-trunked-system.html

Thanks for the information and the link. Will take a look at it.

Sorry if I was a bit rash in my previous reply.
Cheers!

Quick answer: lack of spectrum and for what spectrum's available, price. Also, if they switched to a different band they would need to re-engineer the whole system for coverage; this would require locating, purchasing/leasing new sites and build out (all falling under price).
