Well,
My Uniden BCD396XT was stolen.
It is registered on the Uniden site under my registration, but does anyone know of a way to register as stolen with that serial?

Sorry to hear that. Did you file a police report? They can enter the scanner as stolen into NCIC in case any LEO comes across it. I would also visit local pawn shops, check Craigslist, and eBay. It's worth a shot. Good luck.

definitely keep a look out at local pawn shops, ebay, and craiglist.
How did it get stolen? Thats always been a fear of mine... Even in the small city i live in, if i have a digital scanner in the car, the windows go up and doors locked. even if im just running into the gas station to pay for gas. My ol lady thinks im a little too paranoid, but i could never stomach the thought of someone getting away with that much money of mine..

Please file a report with the police. Make sure you give them the serial number. I've personally heard over my XT people getting pulled over with a bunch of electronics (stolen). Police ran a bunch of serial numbers and sure enough some of the property came up stolen.

It has been mentioned before, in other posts.
The newer scanners can be programmed with the start-up screen.
I programmed my scanner's start-up screens to show my name & adress on start-up.
Hopefully the thief isn't smart enough, or doesn't have the software and cables to reprogram the scanner.
This might help others in the future.
Again, sorry to hear about you loss.

In the opening screen, I have:
My Name
My Address
My City, State
My Cellphone #:

I also just registered the scanner on my.uniden.com. I also took pictures of it, showing opening screen, s/n number, etc.

Sorry to here about that people work hard to buy things, scum comes along and thinks it is free for the taking.

Any chance insurance can cover it?

My startup screen says:
.....LoJack.....
Stolen Scanner
GPS Locator
Now Activated

Obviously that wouldn't help me get it back, but if someone takes it, maybe it will make them think twice about keeping it or trying to sell it.
Yeah, name and contact info would probably be better.

The startup screen on my 396T has the following info:

"scanner owner"
My name
My City and State
My phone number

I am reluctant to put my address in there because the thief or thieves (if they know how to turn it on) will now know where I live. Your home address may be just too much information to give out.

I figure that if an honest person or pawn shop owner wants to get in touch with me, they can always pick up the phone and give me a call.

Mine says:

STOLEN FROM
(NAME)
(EMAIL ADDRESS)
(PHONE NUMBER)

I would totally suggest you report it to the Police as well. Here in Toronto, pawn shops are required to keep a log of electronic equipment with the serial numbers as well as who sold the gear, and who purchased it. There is a specialized unit within the Police service here that goes around to the hawk shops periodically to check these lists when things are reported stolen.

Food for thought, don't put your address unless you want a visitor. I just put :
Name, Phone
Drivers license no

I agree...

I would suggest not listing DL# on there, as it could be useful for identity thieves. Your callsign would be a good option.

...too much personal identity information might lead to unpleasant consequences, so it would be smarter to leave that out. Name, e-mail, or phone number so the good guys can get in touch with you would be advisable.
