I have confirmed that Stone Mountain Park DPS is going to cease operating its own dispatch facility for its police and fire rescue early 2027 and turn that over to the GSP Troop C/HQ Communications Center.
The park is also significantly reducing its own police force down to just a handful of officers and ceasing 24 hour police coverage. Normally it's 4 or 5 officers on duty each 12 hour shift. This will reduce to 1 or 2 officers on duty and no longer 24 hour coverage. Supposedly GSP will augment park public safety as needed along with Dekalb County PD providing backup as needed.
It is unknown if the existing park TRS will remain in use or how comms between all of the various agencies will work. I assume there will be an IP link from the park DPS TRS to the Troop C comms center.
Supposedly the SMP DPS fire rescue will remain as-is although it only provides fire and BLS medical coverage from 7am to midnight with Dekalb Fire station 11 answers calls after midnight in the park.
The reasoning is that attendance at SMP has declined significantly over the past several years and the SMMA is operating in the red for the first time in decades.
