Tennessee's terrain is generally not favorable. Also, we get a disproportionate number of rain wrapped, fast moving, nighttime tornadoes. I would highly recommend not attempting it.

The answer is YES we chase storms here in TN. NO I do not encourage anyone, especially beginners, to chase storms -period- ESPECIALLY here in TN.

The terrain is horrible, the visibility is terrible and our proximity to the gulf moisture supply guarantees high precipitation in severe weather. All of these factors add up to extremly dangerous situations.

I have been chasing storms since 1985 and TN is by far the most dangerous terrain I have chased in. Needless to say, my annual chase-cations on the plains are much better for visibility and to chase as safely as possible.

DixieChasers.net in Memphis is the unofficial gathering place for TN storm chasers. The DASCCON severe weather workshop in Jackson, TN July 28th, 2012 will be the perfect time to meet other chasers from the area and get more information.
