Storm Dammage in SW MS

Due to the heavy rainfall over the last few days, magor fl;ooding is occuring in Lincoln, and Franklin counties. Some bridges have been damaged and roads closed, property damaged, and so many trees downed, that you might want to invest in firewood for the future. Many areas are experiencing power outages due to trees on lines, and the Natchez Trace, has virtually been shut down in the Southen District. Rescue in Lincoln, and Franklin county have been busy helping stranded motorists all night. Highway 84 near Roxie has been partially washed out, as well as many smaller backroads. I personally hoping that the dam on my pond holds as the water level is almost overflowing for only the second time in all my 31 years of life. Not to mention that the first was only a couple of months ago. Luckily my home sits on a hill and is above the many strreams near me, so I am unaffected , though I will have to go rebuild the campsite on a nearby creek due to its flooding, and the flooding of the Homochitto River making the creek backup worse than normally. but thats half the fun of campsites on creeks eh?

Sometimes I think flooding damage is much worse than being hit by a tornado. The areas affected can range from a few square miles to several counties and wipe out entire towns. Thankfully, tornadoes have a much more narrow path of destruction, but can kill more people because of their high winds.


How have the storms affected communications on the local and state radio systems in your area?

Yes for a day or so both disruptions to MHP's main sattelite (remote) towers in District 9-Troop-M were out due to power losses and minor damage to landlines, and telephone was out due to some damage to a few overhead lines out. THis was quickly repaired though. Thank goodness MHP has a series of repeaters on different towers than the main transmitters. These were utilized for ops during the outages. I still think MHP will be better off when the state finishes its feasability studies for the prposed VHF/UHF Statewide NET (most likely trunked APCO-P-25).

Again

Once again Mother Nature vented on SW MS,....
She decided that Lincoln County again was gonna be a target, and many trees are down on both residences, and business in the Brookhaven area, as well as power, and phone lines down from fallen trees.
