Been using this model for almost 10 years now (along with all the other model's I have), It's in great shape, I have always hand programmed everything in it. Today while changing a custom search range to VHF- low (great propagation today here), I did something I have done a MILLION times, changed the range, and used "auto" select for step and modulation. It's like I have no squelch or volume (no static with squelch set to zero). These are the steps I have already tried.

1. I have signal, and speaker works fine, EVERYWHERE else in the scanner, all ranges searches, on and on.
2. 3 local NOAA tower's coming in fine, squelch and volume, same with point 1.above.
3. Did a power down
4. did a power down WITH battery pull
5. Let sit BOTH times for 5 mins.

I have never had anything like this happen. It's only on that one custom search range-----no squelch, or volume.

Anyone have any ideas??? I am lost on this one.

Thanks for any ideas, or help

I guess the broadcast screening feature will do that. Check its settings so that you haven't blocked out the whole range, when you though you where adding a search range.

Ubbe, thanks for the suggestion, i just checked that, and it is set correctly. Good idea, but no luck. I even tried re entering the custom range. It's so strange, no volume or squelch, but only on that custom search range. I am trying a longer battery pull right now.

Found it! I checked through the setting's again, somehow it got set to control channel only-----which is not going to work for VHF-Low ( I was searching 25-54 mhz.). Anyway thanks for trying Ubbe------I am just glad to have the 346 working (my favorite series of scanners 330t,346xt,396t, and 396xt)!!

That's the scanner I always take with me when leaving the house and for chasing interferencies. I have those special low discharge cells in it so it will always be ready for use.

I can be tricky to find all settings even if you thought you checked them all. Glad you finally found the problem.
