I know...CB Ch. 8. Let's look at this outside of CB for a moment though.

I'm getting a strange data signal on my 996 (and on a CB) - sounds like telemetry. Is anyone else getting it? Repeating signal (on for 1-2 minutes then off for 1) - seems the most "intelligible" in AM, but tried NFM as well. I don't have anything that will do CW, but that may be the correct mode to hear it best (RTTY?)

So I dug out the trusty DX-390 and VR-500 and the signals sound somewhat like RTTY centered on 27.0506 LSB. Cycle is shorter now, with some burts lasting only 1-5 seconds.
Seems odd on CB frequencies, but it could be coming from SOB I suppose.

wireless mouse or keyboard. Believe it or not they're using the 27 MHz band for TX/RX data !!
If I try to DX 10 or 11 Mtrs and my wife is on her laptop using the wireless mouse, I have to hang it up until she's done.

You too!!! Mine is 27.055 for the mouse and 27.185 for the keyboard. So data you are probably hearing something similar to this unless you are mobile and still hear it for a wide radius then I doubt it being wireless keyboards.

I'll take a drive out of the neighborhood and see what I get...

Good to know...it seems to spread from just above 27.03 to just below 27.06. On the VR-500, it seems to have one sideband carrier...

You, my friend, get the boobie prize :lol:.
I did a quick little DX run and a house about a half-block away on a cross-street is apparently the culprit - pegging the meter (in bursts) on 27.045 MHz

Strange signal on 27.055 MHz =

Ya know guys,,,, this Kinda answers this question

http://www.radioreference.com/forum...do-you-listen-besides-emergency-services.html

And I just had a thought ..............seriously..............really I do this sometimes.

Could there be a way to decode that signal burst and figure out what someone is typing?

now that would be James Bond Like.

we need to get Q on that right away!!

I reckon it would be virtually impossible to use a wireless keyboard in a truck stop.

Of course I would wonder what would happen if we was in the middle of a heavy duty solar cycle and there was some sort of "super-skip", some strange words would probably pop up on the screen. But, I doubt the keyboard and mouse generate enough x-mit power to be able to skip.
