I have been hearing, at regular intervals strange morse code transmissions, usually in 1, 2 or 3 letter and/or number groups. The frequency is 507.0875. I am in Cranston using a small bearcat 350a scanner with just the little whip antenna. The transmissions are loud and clear and sound local. These transmission come every 15 to 20 minutes roughly. I did a search on here and found nothing for that frequency.

There is no land mobile use of TV channel 20 506-512 MHz in or near RI. The closest area is Philadelphia so unless there was a tropo opening you were probably picking up an image of some other frequency. Do you hear this all the time?

I would guess an image that is being created in the scanner. Every 15 minutes a local business repeater does a CWID and another fairly busy channel mix creating an image but not matching long enough to get a 6 or 7 character ID.

The older Bearcats had an image issue and it could be used to our advange
ie: 483.5375 many of us would get TV 38 Audio, so add 21.4 [I think this was the math]
and we can now program 504.9875 and get Quincy Fire without the TV 38 audio

As the T-Band here in Boston [Parts of RI fall under Boston per the FCC]
is only 470-473 and 482-485, the 507.0875 is a little outside of our allocations.
See notes at the bottom of Television Frequencies - The RadioReference Wiki

If the UHF Band was open [aka skip, tropo etc]
VHF Propagation Map
which VHF has been rather nice of late

You could be hearing NY/NJ
Not too up on the 350a, but if it can do PL, see what tone it displays.

strange transmission....

Yeah now that it was mentioned here, this transmission is probably an image.....as far as I know there isn't anybody using frequencies in that area (500 mhz) around here. I am scanning now to see if I can hear it again. I will try to write down the CW characters....

506-512 is used by WCVB in Boston for transmission. You'll hear mostly noise on those frequencies around here. There was a lot of tropospheric ducting the last two days, so you probably got an image from another frequency coming in via the trop.
