To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So I have an older ( discontinued prior to the “XVP mics came out ) model XV PMMN4145A that has an odd issue - on my current firmware APX8000 when you turn the radio on with the mic attached all the buttons work ( the volume toggle, one dot, two dot PTT etc etc ) they all work great. About an hour or two later with the radio being on - all the buttons EXCEPT the PTT no longer work. You have to restart the radio and they all work again. Then same thing - 2 hours or so later all the buttons except the PTT don’t work.

I do have a newer XVP830 mic and that mic acts fine but I’ve never heard of this issue with this older XV mic. Is this why they were discontinued ? Any recommendations for a fix ? Mic sounds fantastic it’s just the buttons don’t work after a certain amount of time. I checked the connector and everything seemed fine with it. Same with the coiled cord.

Ordered this cord since I couldn’t find an exact cord match for this model numbered mic. It looks to have the same connector as this mic so I hope it work ( part numver 3075336b17 )

What’s the verdict, you guys think this cord will work ?

According to the data sheet, the proper part number for the XV RSM replacement cord is PMKN4260

That would made sense since that mic cord goes to the XVP830/850 series. Well - it’s too late to cancel the order I placed so I’m hoping it’s a “plug and play” since the connectors look the same but the one I ordered has a shorter cord.

So - another update. I also ordered the PMKN4260 cable as well. Before that got here I plugged in the 3075336b17 cord and it works ! Only thing is - same issue - after about an hour the mic buttons stop working except the PTT.
Plugged in the new PMKN4260 cable - same thing. Works for about an hour then nothing but the PTT works. So - this is definitely a defective mic head and not a cable issue.
Oh well - these mics I believe were recalled anyway wonder if this was one of the reasons they were recalled ?
