I’ve been told that Strasburg’s frequency may have changed from its very long time 161.235. Any idea what the new one might be, if they did change?

Thanks,

Welcome to radio reference Mike, every source that I can find still lists the long-time frequency as you have quoted. Whoever told you they may have changed, ask them why they think it may have changed? Where did they hear it from? Who told them that?.. get more information and maybe they can go to whoever told them that maybe the frequency was changed and maybe find out to what.

There are so many list of railroad frequencies that are compiled and very accurate and every single one of them quotes their long time frequency.

If you do find that it's changed to something else make sure to let the database administrators know by making a submission so it can be changed in the database and be shared. Good luck..

You may want to call the railroad themselves and ask to speak to a dispatcher or train director or maybe an engineer or conductor and just ask, tell them you're a railroad buff and you're just curious if they're able to tell you. At least maybe they can confirm that they have not changed the frequency.

There've been no reports of changes in radio frequency following the 2022 minor accident involving collision w/ROW equipment.
ALL indications from multiple sites indicate 161.235 remains their listed operational communication frequency.

In early 2023 a DMR UHF license was issued for Strasburg RR. Call KEX465

A few months ago I traveled to Lancaster and heard railroad type ops (break pipe pressure tests, movements, etc) on
452.375 CC=9 TimeSlot =1. I did not catch the Talkgroup. This freq is a repeater/FB2. There are 5 other MO frequencies on the license.

I am not suggesting they moved their RR ops to this freq, but I am sharing the infor I have found

It looks as though they have gone to UHF according to their listing. If it sounds like they went digital, without knowing pl codes listening to them isn't easy. I'm not sure if anyone on here knows for sure.

If ops have gone to DMR then PL tones aren't applicable. @jje64 or someone else in the area with a DMR capable receiver will need to fill in the missing TGID info for 452.375 (we already have slot & CC) & check for activity on the other mobile frequencies listed on the license if close enough. Pretty easy to do if you know how

You are correct. I guess it would be a NAC code. There is a Broadcastify Scanner channel dedicated to Strasburg Operations but it doesn’t list frequencies or NAC codes in the description nor a contact the owner option. Maybe someone in the area would have better luck searching for these.

Interesting. I have never heard of DMR as that’s new to me. I would guess you need a high end scanner or Motorola XTS series radio for that.

Sorry I read right over that. I have a BCD996P2 so I’ll look at the software for DMR capability. Thanks for all the information even though it is over my head.

The BCD996P2 requires paid upgrades for DMR and NXDN. If you are using FreeSCAN programming software, you are out of luck. It doesn't support DMR or NXDN. For DMR and NXDN, you can use Butel ARC-XT or ProScan. Both have free trial periods to decide which one you like better.

I looked at the ProScan program tonight and didn’t see anything remote to the settings listed about. Thanks for all your information and maybe someone who lives close can get the missing info.

The P25 NACs & DMR Color Codes (along with NXDN RANs) is set at the conventional channel level. Set the Audio Type to Digital then you can set the Color Code like in this image.
